OMG it is finally THE LAST post of the Safarimoon! lol #gasp
Firstly, alow me to apologies for the massive spam of pictures as I blog with excitement. What a beautiful grand finale to end our safarimoon! BEAR with my spams! #lol
So from the last post, we were basking in the beautiful beach scene of the Last Word Long Beach. In this morning, we struggled to check out of this quaint beauty.
We finally made our way to the next destination Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, approximately 2.5 hours by road. It is highly recommended to consider using R44 route and not the NZ as you get to Somerset West. We did not manage to use the recommended route but nevertheless still enjoyed our road trip.
Our faithful Volkswagon Polo, taking us through our 4 days safely, small but mighty.
Before making your way to Grootbos, you can consider visiting this rustic cafe,
Truth Coffee Roasting 36 Buitenkant St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8000, South Africa
While the coffee is a little too strong for my liking, we spent most of our time in admiration of this radically designed steam-punked cafe. My pictures will tell you why!
Look at this is how they make their coffee! #gasp Still cannot believe my coffee came out of these…
A funky cashier machine
Worth your visit!
Day 8: Unforgettable destination to Xanadu- Grootbos Private Nature Reserve
After a 2 1/2 hour journey, the gates of Xanadu appeared in front of us gleaming in the sunshine, we have finally arrived at the entrance of Grootbos.
Grootbos Private Nature Reserve
P O Box 148, Gansbaai, South Africa, 7220
Grootbos is centred in the heart of Cape’s abundant sea, tucked between 2500 hectors of pristine wilderness with 100s of endangered botanical species and milk-tree forests that are as old as 1000 years old, resembling a modern day Garden of Eden.
Welcome to the Forest Lodge
As we walked into the lobby, we cannot help but be in awe with its tranquillity. We knocked ourselves out of our dreamy state and felt a little overwhelmed by its grandeur. Ya, simply put, a bit too ATAS !! HAHAHA!! Nevertheless, we are set to ENJOY our last 2 days here!
Relax and eat your sweets
Ya, even the waiting area at the lobby so ATAS…Okie I am not going touch you (expensive-looking displays) lol
Each lodge has a personal guide and after our introduction, we decided to have our lunch while waiting for our lodge to be ready. This was the start of our culinary experiences with every plate of food served as a piece of ART!!
What a pretty way to present their dishes
HIS manly looking like Lunch
So after lunch, we headed excitedly to our lodges. Our guide told us that because we are on a honeymoon, they arranged for us to live in the last lodge right at the end so that we can scream all we can #gasp #embarrassed #lol
These 16 luxurious Forest Lodges are sprouted in the intimacy of a fairy-tale forest, each set on the hill and has a magical walkway leading to the romantic getaway.
Indeed, we are surrounded by these pretty blooms on our way to the lodge.
Our Guide leading the looooong walkway.
Indulging in this long walk
We finally arrived! TADA!
First, we spot a little coffee area, so quaint!
The living room
Our 4th bottle of liquor, this time a champagne!!
Yes, we are supposed to wake up to this….
Left is Mine,Right is Hubs’ !
Romantic bathtub with a view
After settling in our lodge, we headed for our afternoon activity, a guided cave tour. There are numerous activities to do in Grootbos including shark diving, cave tours, horse ridings. My hubs heard from his friend that this Klipgat cave is a World Heritage Site and thus we headed for it.
The dramatic limestone cliffs of De Kelders where Khoi bushman called these caves home.
It is not easy walking through these rocks… she holding my hand to ensure my safety
The Panoramic View of the mysterious caves
Finally get a decent shot after many many attempts!
We did not spend too much time in the caves as our guide advised that it could be unsafe to when the tide rises. At the same time, she seemed to be in a rush to drive us back to catch the sunset and we wondered why. After all, we have been spoilt by countless of beautiful sunsets ( sorry always so haolian), but THIS left us dumbfounded.
In Inexplicable Awe
Yes I have a beautiful backview too, thanks to hubs! #lol
Massive snapping even back at our own lodge!
Love this silhouette!! Pun intended! lol… I just wanna haolian my capture against the astounding sunset beauty!
After dinner, we headed back and was pleasantly surprised at their warm hospitality!! They really went the extra mile and our hearts felt so fuzzy and warmed by their thoughtfulness.
The fireplace was set up for us before we returned to our lodge!! So cosy!
They placed warmers inside our blankets to keep us warm! #gasp
And as we walked into the bathroom….*drum rollllll*
This is too much! lol really knows how to surprise us!
However, the happiness was SHORT-LIVED!!! #gasp What was meant to be thoughtful gestures turned out to be a horrible nightmare.zzz. So we happily soaked ourselves in this romantic ambience and when we were ready to wash off the bubble bath, we realised in HORROR that the heater in the taps were no longer working. We waited and try, waited and gave it some chance. NOPE, the heater is spoilt and we had to either wipe the bubbles off or shower in cold water!!!!#gasp
NOT FUNNY to be bathing in COLD water when the temperature was less than 9 degrees?! So yes we complained and they managed to sort out the issue only the next morning. A pleasant surprise turned sour. BUT STAY TUNED to see how they did their service recovery later! #lol
Day 9: Horse ride into Nature’s Rhythm and the Grand Finale with a MAGICAL Spin
The next morning, we planned for horse-riding in the morning and to catch the Marine 5 in the afternoon. I have done horse riding when I was younger and back in 2006 when I visited New Zealand # GASP that is freaking a decade ago! OMG! In anyway, they always choose a mount that is appropriate for your weight and size and I assumed I would be given a pony ,haha. My horse is indeed young and GREEDY one as it kept stopping to graze and feed on the grass.
Pls be good to me!
The blue, the green and the blooms
Photo credits all to my hubs!! I spent most of the time relaxing in harmony with nature’s abundance, unperturbed by human awe.
Cant help taking some pictures of these superstars! Hey Cutie!
After lunch, we returned to enjoy this part of the lodge. How often do we get to spoil ourselves in such luxury!
Artistic shot by the artistic hubs @myitchyfinger
In the afternoon, we headed for a cruise to catch the MARINE BIG 5: Whales, Seals, Sharks,Penguins and Dolphins. This time, we are not so fortunate and can hardly get a good glimpse of these graceful marine life. And for the first time in my life, I got seasick! To think that I used to pride myself for all the sea sports I did when I am my twenties….zzzz
A wefie before I got all seasick
At least this is a good capture in my humble opinion!
If you look closely, you will see some “heads” popping out, these are the seals! This is one of the best shots, for the other pictures of whales and dolphins were not so clear.
As we headed back for dinner, we are absolutely not prepared for this surprise!!! As a way to express their apology for the discomfort we had last night due to the spoilt heater, they prepared our dinner in their exquisite cellar dining room! Okie they win. Not angry anymore. #lol I must say TOP notch in service recovery!
Look how ROMANTIC this is!
Even if this is just bread…lol
Artistic masterpiece in plating they say
In love with these exotic botanicals
Finally, ending this post with a video of our wonderful forest lodge. To the next Safari trip in 10 years time?!
