When I was 18 or 19, someone asked me this question, “If you can only use one makeup product, which one would you pick?” “Concealer,” I replied, “because my dark eye circles are terrible.” In fact, if you ask me the same question today, my answer will still be the same.
This photo was taken after makeup and with my camera’s beauty mode on and my dark eye circles are still so visible.
I sleep a lot, making sure that I get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep a day because I know that I get grouchy whenever I don’t get enough. I take good care of my skin with the right products and facial massage techniques, but my dark eye circles just happily took the PR status right under my eyes. I’m guessing it may be genetic, or it could be due to my sinus problem.
I took this bare-faced photo some time back when my sister, her kids, and I went back to my parents’ place for a sleepover because we wanted to recreate that childhood feeling! My dark eye circles…
Makeup can only help that much
To minimise the tired look caused by my dark eye circles, concealers have been my BFFs for the longest time. However, I can look fresh for the first few hours, but when the makeup wears off, my panda eyes show through again. I can’t touch up too much too, if not, the undereye makeup gets cakey and all the fine lines will show through, making me look even worse.
Consultation with Dr. Siew from Radium Medical Aesthetics
Dr. Siew evaluated my condition and told me that although my dark eye circles weren’t too bad, a little bit of undereye fillers and 3 sessions of Refresh Dark Eye Circle Laser will definitely improve my dark eye circles significantly.
Numbing cream application to minimise discomfort.
I went there with zero makeup but the nurse therapist still gently cleanse my face before applying the numbing cream.
Dual Yellow Laser
Dr. Siew started the treatment with my first session of Refresh Dark Eye Circle Laser that promises to reduce dark eye circles, and at the same time, rejuvenate and brighten the treated area.
Although there are different lasers for addressing dark eye circle, Dr. Siew decided to use Dual Yellow Laser as it is mild, yet effective in eliminating the dark pigments under the skin. Unlike other conventional ablative lasers, Dual Yellow Laser does not break the skin surface. It emits strong yellow and green laser that corresponds well with the absorption peaks for the dark pigments.
The unique wavelengths of Dual Yellow Laser are capable of reaching the dermis, targeting the pigments and breaking them down without causing any collateral damage to surrounding skin.
Immediately after the treatment, I noticed that the treated areas have brightened, fine lines are less, and overall skin texture around the eyes have improved. Although subtle, I can already see a difference from the first session.
Dr. Siew shared with me that he applied the laser to my upper lids too so that they can look more lifted.
The laser session took about 10 to 15 minutes and there is no downtime, nor any discomfort.
Immediately after the Dual Yellow Laser session was completed, we moved on to the next step of the treatment – undereye fillers.
I’ve seen cases where too much undereye fillers were injected and the lady looked so puffed up, and her eyes looked smaller than before. After voicing my concerns to Dr. Siew, he told me not to worry because he wants his patients to look good, and he will make sure that that wouldn’t happen.
I always say that it’s not the tools, but the person executing it that makes the difference. I have faith in Dr. Siew and I don’t have to worry about it.
Injecting the fillers to fill up the hollow so that the dark eye circles will be minimised.
Pleased with the results!
My skin was pretty numbed after the numbing cream so I could only feel a little pressure during the injection. Don’t worry about it being painful!
I was brought to the vanity room to neaten up myself before I head out.
I was scrutinizing myself in the car’s mirror and telling my hubby that the results of the undereye fillers were amazing. I could see the results immediately and I noticed that concealer application was so much easier after that. Previously, the dark eye circles were really so hard to conceal. Now, I just need to dab on a little bit of concealer and I’m ready to go.
I asked the clinic for the before and after photos that they took for me so that I can show you all the differences.
Do manage your expectations, though. The combination treatment greatly improved the appearance of dark eye circles, but it is very hard to completely get rid of it. Repeating Dual Yellow Laser will definitely help to further reduce its appearance. The fillers can last for a year to a year and a half, after which you can go for another round if you want to.
With Dual Yellow Laser, it will take a bit of time to see the results and I guess 3 sessions of them will be sufficient to rejuvenate my eye area by at least 90% so that I don’t look so tired all the time. On top of reducing my dark eye circles, Dual Yellow Laser also helps to reduce fine lines and brighten the treated area, so I’m hoping to see the end results soon too!
Dr. Siew takes dark eye circle treatment one step further by incorporating undereye filler to further enhance the result and smoothen out fine lines and loose skin under the eyes. You will be amazed at how a tiny amount of dermal filler can make such a huge difference in rejuvenating my eyes!
I hope that by sharing this post, those who are affected by their dark eye circles have a better idea of what are the treatment options that are available. Book your appointment to get a consultation with Dr. Siew if you are interested. I’ll leave his clinic details below!
