Besides the unbearable cold, one of the reasons why I hate winters is the fact that it can be really hard trying to look stylish and yet keep warm at the same time.
I used to wrap myself up in a full black colour outfit and look completely like an assassin ALL THE TIME whenever its winter and my hubby would really roll his eyes at me because he couldn’t even see my face under the thick scarf. However, over the years, I made the extra effort to style my winter outfits a little better.
Before we head into my little tips on how to make our winter outfits more interesting, you may want to watch the $100 Shopping Challenge video Roanna and I did in Hongdae, Seoul. We had a budget of $100 to get ourselves a full outfit! Which style did you like better?
1. Add some colours
Instead of picking the easiest and most versatile black, I added more colours into my winter outfits so that they are now more interesting. Besides, colours definitely pop a photo!
Since the weather is cold, do layerings to add interest to your outfit. Pack your favourite accessories like hats, headbands, statement earrings, and cute scarves to dress up your winter outfit. You will be surprised how much an accessory can do to change an entire look. In fact, I love accessorizing before heading out of the door even in Singapore and am surprised at how shy Singaporeans can get because sometimes, my friends feel shy even to put on a hat, or a scarf. Please don’t be! 🙂
3. Get some HEATTECH
Instead of wrapping yourself up like a ba zhang, get some warm long johns or HEATTECHS from Uniqlo and you won’t have to wear so many layers and risk looking like a ball. I personally prefer HEATTECHs because my skin gets irritated and rashes flare up whenever I wear long johns. I’m suspecting it’s the wool that is irritating my skin although I have never gotten around to proving the allergy with a doctor.
It’s still winter in many parts of the world so if you are travelling anytime soon, please don’t dress like the old me! Up your style points with your winter outfit choices and make every photo ‘gram worthy.
