Food Tasting – Brunch at Re! Fill restaurant at Hotel Re!

Hope everyone had a smashing weekend!

I had a great one thanks to Hotel Re! and the lovely girls, Cordelia, Eunice, Mayne and Honey (my girlfriend and +1).

Was invited to grace a food tasting event by my good friend, Amelia who was close friends with Cordelia. Thank you for the invitation babe if you ever read this!

So anyway, this food tasting was to try out the new brunch menu at Re!Fill, Hotel Re’s restaurant which was newly launched in September! Trying out a new healthy and nutritious menu, I must say I was so impressed with how dishes could be healthy yet flavourful at the same time! They are currently also offering a 20% discount till the 31 December 2014 for this exciting new menu!

Only available exclusively on weekends and selective public holidays, from 10am to 2pm, it should be on your list of ‘brunch places to try’! The venue is also easily accessible by their free shuttle bus service. This is a great place for tertiary students who are looking for a peaceful setting to have brunch at.

We also had the honour to meet Celebrity Chef William Ang. He is such an inspiration and a really funny, humble person.

Enough words, let me show you the wonderful dishes they serve!

Jean’s Classic Breakfast

The classic breakfast which remains a favourite with men and also my choice of a hearty breakfast! Featuring the absolute must-haves, milky scrambled eggs, golden hash browns, chicken sausage, baked beans, sautéed portobello mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and toasted garlic bread topped with crispy turkey bacon.

Cherie’s Slipper Lobster Croissant

Not lacking behind the lobster roll craze these days, Hotel Re! has come up with their own signature lobster roll differentiating it with a croissant base instead! Generously filled with a mixed of grilled slipper lobster tossed with chopping celery, chive, tomato in Japanese dressing and tobiko. Accompanied by truffle fries, this is an irresistible and elevating dish!

Eileen’s Salmon Bagel

Give in to your temptations and indulge in smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes, mesclun salad all perfectly encrust in a tasty toasted bagel with homemade zesty lemon cream spread.

Shermaine’s BeRe!Licious Pancake

And, finally of course we have the highlight of the meal. Initially wanting to have this as my main instead, the lovely girls told me to order this as a dessert instead! I must say, am I glad I did. It was so good, we finished it within 5 minutes. It was that good. Topped with mixed berries, drizzled with chocolate and strawberry sauce, this is a must for any dessertarian. You could also opt for the healthier choice and have it with butter and maple syrup if you prefer. Am I missing it already!

If you are unable to decide on whether you want to try sweet or savoury, you should order both! But if say, you do not want to waste food, fret not! At Re! Fill, they provide top ups even for pancakes at very reasonable prices ranging from $2 to $3! You could also top up your beverage at a minimal price. Their drinks menu is also quite extensive.

Instagram Contest

Also, they are hosting a staycation contest where you can win a complimentary 2D1N stay in their deluxe room. The one with the highest vote wins!

1. Visit Re!Fill Restaurant for brunch
2. Strike a nice pose with your favourite brunch item!
3. Tag Hotel Re with hashtag #hotelre and #hotelrebrunch
4. A lucky winner will receive a complimentary 2D1N stay cation in their deluxe room (worth $320++)

After the event, the sweetie pies went on to bring us around the place to see the rooms. The rooms are quite huge and comes with cute happy retro themes ready to impress. We had the honour to visit the superior rooms, business room, family suite and the splendid Gold themed suite. Amongst all, I would really love to stay in their splendid Gold themed suite which is also their bridal suite. It is really spacious and comes with a water bed which I like.

Also, not forgetting the alfresco dining area which is really cute! They have retro billy bombers inspired couches to suit their retro theme. This is one of the popular wedding photo shoot areas! Even my girlfriend wants to have her photo shoot here.

Thats all for this post! Thank you for reading.

Food Review – Brunch at Penny University

Hope you guys had a smashing week!

Went to Penny University for brunch today and it was so pack! We were told we would have to wait for at least 20 to 30 minutes. But thank god, it wasn’t that long.

There were a few waiting chairs outside the café but as there were too many people; we decided to roam around the neighborhood instead. Opposite was Oh Deli cafe, which I have heard raves about too and have wanted to visit initially.

When it was our turn, we were given a seat inside next to the bookshelves where all the magazines and books lie. I like how the magazines are updated ones and the café gave off positive and cozy vibes. I find it to be a fantastic place for both couples and large cliques.

When the food came, we were slightly disappointed though…the toast was certainly not worth the price we paid for. The eggs were scrambled but tasted like what I could easily cook at home. Boyfriend skipped the toast and the salad at the side. As for the muesli, it was okay but not worth the price too. The granola was tasty but I thought the yoghurt did not go well with the granola. It tasted weird in my opinion (FYI, I am a crazy fan of yoghurt especially greek yoghurt. I have at least 2-3 cups every week).

The iced chocolate and Moroccan rosebuds tea was good though. I guess the drinks are the reason why so many people come to this café! Perhaps the next time, I will be sure to check out their caffeine and of course give their other dishes another go!

Also, parking was quite limited but we were lucky and managed to score a lot the moment we turned in. However, be prepared for no parking space when you go at peak hours though!

So…that’s about it. Thank you for reading guys!

Food Review – Becasse Dempsey

Welcome back to this humble space of mine.

Went for lunch this afternoon to celebrate a girlfriend’s belated birthday. As usual we were both late for our date and met 30 minutes after the scheduled timing. I had wanted to bring this girl to OTTO Locanda but their lunch was only till 2pm which is impossible for us. We met close to 1:40pm.

So we settled at Becasse, Dempsey instead as I thought the place looked not bad from the pictures. I have been to the Ion’s outlet a couple of times and thought the ambience was so-so. The restaurant had great dishes and beverages but the ambience was a killer. The staff at Ion were not very pleasant as well. One of the staff actually sighed so loudly when we asked her to help us take a picture. The staff at the Dempsey outlet were much better.

I secretly left the table to ask a staff to surprise my friend by placing a candle on the waffle my girlfriend ordered but to my horror, she forgot to do so and I had to go to another staff to ask him to do it for me. This was rather awkward for both myself and my friend! However the waitress apologised after so thats cool.

The food was as expected, better than the norm. I persuaded my girlfriend to order the salted caramel and toffee popcorn macaron milkshake as it was so good. As I had that before, I decided to try out something new and chose their tea with basil leaves and strawberries.

The pan seared foie gras was beautifully done too. Complimentary bread was served as an accompaniment.

The salted caramel tart was however, disappointing. I had previously read reviews elsewhere that the caramel was supposed to be liquidity and flowing just like how a molten lava cake should be but here, the tart was so stiff. There was certainly no such thing as liquidity flowing salted caramel sauce at all. The waffle was alright, nothing special.

After the meal, as normal girlfriends would, we walked around town area and shopped for skincare products. I love that with this girlfriend of mine, we can go on endlessly about the facial products we both use and as our skin is of the same type, we relate to one another better.

Thank you for reading guys and please stay tune to more upcoming posts!

Food Review – Potato Head Folk

Happy Monday guys!

Hope this monday isn’t that blue after all.

I guess most of you have already heard of the new hipster bar in town. Brought over to Singapore by the original bosses of Potato Head, this is certainly worth a visit.

On a sunny sunday afternoon, there were actually quite a lot of people! The interior was stunning and quirky. My boyfriend thought it resembled a circus! I liked how whimsical the place looked.

I didn’t quite enjoyed the menu though as I thought the variety of beverages was quite limited. If you are a non-alcoholic, you might find yourself drinking only water which can be quite sad. Despite the limited number of items on the menu, the snacks were really good. We had naughty fries, wings and a  Baby Huey burger.

The naughty fries were the star of the meal. We thoroughly enjoyed the fries and the sauce they used.

The wings were also fantastic but we got quite sick of it after awhile because of the sauce.

The burger looked rather disappointing at first but the taste was great! Though I am not a fan of beef, this burger had me reaching at it for a second bite.

After brunch, we went up to take a look as we heard there was a rooftop bar on top. On the way up, we couldn’t resist and ended up taking pictures haha.

And as usual, we went around the building after to take some OOTD pictures.
