Our Little Rascal

Was thinking what should be my next topic for blogging and the Mummy also agree, Lucas it shall be! I’ll leave the story of how hard we went through to hear his first-ever heartbeat at week 6 for another time, let’s start with something a little more light-hearted amidst this terrible time!

Just a short introduction to this little rascal of mine. Lucas was born on the 30th of May 2018, a Gemini. Definitely not the horoscope I have always wanted because all along was kinda hoping to have a Libra baby like myself. Look at all the gorgeous looking Libran, my childhood idol Andy Lau, movie stars Louis Koo and Daniel Wu and the latest hot Crash Landing’s Hyun Bin. Nevertheless, we still make a great team now because the most compatible signs with Gemini are generally considered to be Aries, Leo, Libra, and Aquarius!

Due to the nature of my job, I am really thankful to spend more time with Lucas and I love it. I really don’t wish to miss the growing up stage of him. Looking back, it is really a sweet and bitter feeling to have to go through everything on our own since we didn’t have a confinement lady nor a helper since Day 1. I still remembered this little guy was just so small at 49cm long and weighing at 3.175kg. Fast forward to 22 months now, I can no longer carry him for long without my arms aching, nor catch up when he runs away really fast. I have already lost count on the number of diapers I have changed for the rascal or the time we have to change our bedsheets because of his vomit.

And because we didn’t have help, Lucas is out and about everywhere with us right after his “confinement” period. I’m not too sure is that consider good or bad but we are thankful for the experience we have exposed him to, at such a young age.

Angel and I also agreed upon, our lives shouldn’t change just because he came along. Rather, we want to include Lucas in our lives, let him enjoy the things we love! Everything is the same, from brunch to dinner to shopping to travel but the only difference: “Table for 2 plus 1 please (or the occasional 2 and a half)”

Trust me, I know how tough it can get, I really do. But at the same time, we learned so much from them and we all grow with the journey. They help us to appreciate the simplest things in life which we have tend to forget as we get busier each day. Lucas gets so excited over ants crawling along the corridor, a snail stuck in between a gap or gasped loudly when the moon appeared. When was the last time we stopped and look around — to appreciate what’s right in front of you?

These little human beings don’t have and don’t need a filter. We all know how many filters we need nowadays in our lifestyle, to wear our true self below a mask. They keep it real, how many real friends do we still have as we aged?

No matter how much he had grown and changed over time, that includes his non-exhaustive and growing demands each day, we still love you, Lucas! I look forward to going home, with you running to me with a bright smile and open arms, how you snuggle onto me, fitting just perfectly into my arms when I’m back from work. This magical time is indeed priceless!
