Red and white, the prominent traditional colors of Japan.

Komachi men” is a kind of noodle made from rice named Akita at Tochigi Prefecture. Komachi dough is kneaded, rolled out and sliced into long strips. ”Komachi men” is recommended to serve in soup flavored with soy sauce and mirin (sweet sake).
Comes in red and white, this noodles is great for celebration of happiness and joy since the colors mean strength (red) and purity (white) in Japan.
This flat noodles is very tasty and has a chewy texture. It can be kept under room temperature for 1 year.

To cook these chewy noodles:

1.Cook in boiling water for 3minutes

2.Rinse with cold water

3.Eat it in a hot broth or with a soy based dipping soup.

I love to cook this in my laksa broth or use them in my steamboat hotpot. Slurping good!

(PRODUCT SHARING) Furikake from Yamasu Japan at Metro IPPIN Section

Furikake (振り掛け / ふりかけ) is like a magic because it makes food that you sprinkled on so tasty.

The Japanese love their rice topped with something simple but flavorful such as raw egg, umeboshi, natto, furikake, & etc. For me, I love furikake the most because it is very tasty, convenient and beautiful aesthetically.

There are 3 types of furikake from Yamasu imported by IPPIN available in their shops. I have tried them and I love them all!

First up is the Plum Flake Furikake ($9). This has got amazing plum flavor, just like having umeboshi. Difference is, this has added white sesame seeds, mackerel and bonito flakes, a very appetizing and uplifting seasoning and goes really well with rice. 😋

Next up, the Sesame Flake Furikake ($9). Sesame lovers must get this because it has a good mixture of black & white sesame seeds that tasted extra fragrant with the kelp powder in it. I love to sprinkle this on my chee cheong fun (steamed rice rolls) to give extra crunch and tastiness.

My favorite of all is their Dried Baby Sardines Flake Furikake ($9). This tasted so good and can be used on rice, porridge, meat, fish, salad or anything you fancy. You can even mix this in your mayonnaise for dipping to fried food! The lovely aroma from the sardines and umaminess from other fishes (mackerels & bonito) make this furikake very appetizing and healthy. The beautiful colors make my dishes very pretty too!

The watermelons used are harvested from Kanazawa Dune, near to the Sea of Japan. The sand dunes are very cold in the morning, hot in the daytime and cool at night. The temperature differences of the sand dunes and the pure groundwater pumped from deep underground increase the sweetness of these Kanazawa watermelon.

One of the thing I’ve learnt from the Japanese and trying to follow diligently is to adopt a tea drinking habit.

Knowing that the teas are full of antioxidants and could keep our cells energized and healthy, I tell myself must drink it regularly!

Marumo The One Japan Tea from Shizuoka has many varieties. Shizuoka accounts for almost half of Japan’s overall tea production, and this prefecture has premium tea plantations because of its water quality and climate for production.
