Stay home with 8 CRABS

June 4, 2020

I absolutely LOVE crabs. Have been a fan since I was a child cos my dad would always bring them home and cook for the family. But I guess as we grew older, we turn to restaurants to savour our favourite crustacean as its fuss and hassle free.

So along comes 8 Crabs which I decided to try out. Most of us have been working from home due to the Circuit Breaker and I figured this would be a nice treat for us all. Since we can’t head out for crabs, they will come to us via 8 Crabs instead!

Quality of delivery: When my order arrived, it was piping hot! Even the mantous (fried buns) were steaming! How was that possible right? That is because 8 Crabs has a one driver to an order policy across their 12 kitchens island-wide so that they can uphold their promise of One Hour Crab Delivery.

Food for thought first! Crabs naturally travel about 500m every night and prefer to live alone. However, crab farmers breed many crabs in a confined space in order to be profitable. This causes the crabs to get stressed very easily in captivity as many farms cannot replicate their natural habitat. I DIDN’T KNOW THAT.

When stressed, crabs produce ammonia, which is a sign of decomposition in seafood. Most restaurants purchase farmed crabs because they are cheaper. As a result, they use highly fragrant gravies to cover up the ammonia smell. Or sometimes, you can still smell it if they didn’t cook them properly! WELL, I DIDN’T KNOW THAT EITHER.

Quality of 8 Crab’s crabs: Having said that, I asked my family what they thought about the Chilli crabs and Black Pepper crabs that I ordered. We concluded that the sauces were fragrant but not overwhelming. Yes, is was spicy ( loveeeee) but i could still taste the sweetness of the crab’s meat! The meat doesn’t stick to the shell nor do they mush up which shows how fresh the crabs were. Shiok leh.. serisouly..

Why is that so? 8 Crabs is the only company in Singapore using grade AAA premium Sri Lankan sourced wild crabs. This is graded by the most experienced crab graders in the trade. This means that 8 Crabs crabs are meatier, tastier, bigger, and less watery.

Also, being a lazy eater, I really appreciate how the big parts of the crabs such as the claws were already cracked open during preparation for the meat to soak up the sauces during cooking. It also made consuming the crabs easy! I didn’t even need to use a cracker to get my meat out. 10 points to 8 Crabs!

Quality of Service: Really on the ball! From the time you make your order you have the usual email notification. There was however, a bit of issue with my order, so not only did I receive a text but a call as well to clarify the change in what I originally ordered. They were polite and kind.

Overall experience: 8 Crabs lives up to their name!  My family enjoyed the freshness of the crabs and I definitely appreciated the kindness of both staff and delivery driver.

You can place your order at their easy-to-navigate website but be sure to make your orders early or the sizes of the XL and XXL crabs will sell out before you know it! https://8crabs.com/shop would be your best bet for a good meal while out nation slowly eases their circuit breaker measures. Enjoy!

Love,

Sharon
