Ireland’s Potatoes at Bugis+

Have you tried the fries from Taiwanese Brand - Ireland's Potato located at Bugis #04-01? It's an interesting concept... being a Taiwanese Franchise and calling themselves Ireland's Potato. I just had to ask the owner about the history behind it.

Ireland's potato bugis + photo 9-1_zpse5aa8fb4.png

You can read all about their history here but in summary, Ireland's Potato is named as such because they are inspired by the Irish's passion for potatoes (due to a potato famine). But this is a popular fries franchise hailing from Taiwan! And they are extremely popular there now!

How nice you can try your very own Ireland's Potato here in Singapore too!

Ireland's potatoes bugis + photo 1-3_zps1eb55da3.jpg

They are proud that their fries are like the LV of fries. The best of the best quality. They are completely cut from potatoes and some of them are up to 20cm long. All fries retain 70% of water so you can taste the potato in it! To make it more awesome, all orders are freshly made upon ordering (which explains why there's a 5 minute wait for your food).

All the staff are really chirpy and friendly. They have some samplers for you too if you can't make up your mind on what to order!

This is Alfred, the one behind Ireland's Potato in Singapore. He is only 25yrs old and after trying the fries from Hong Kong, he decided to contact the main franchise owner in Taiwan and in June last year, he opened his very first Ireland's Potato in Bugis +, Singapore. His dream is to bring the best food from all over the world to our sunny island.

"Hi Alfred, can I have..........too much food please!!" And I did get too much food!

Well here's what I tried recently from Ireland's Potato:

There are 3 main types of fries here: CREAMY, POWDERED and CHEESE-based. I decided to try one of each. :)

Ireland's potatoes bugis + photo 5-2_zpsd5caa8d7.jpg

Best Seller, Honey Mustard Fries ($4.70) is a must try. The cream-based sauce is heavy on the honey, making it sweet and creamy. I got to say that the fries are very nicely fried, no oily, soft fries in my little tub. They were all crispy, and served warm.

Ireland's potatoes bugis photo 7-1_zpsbf6d6b2d.jpg

This next one I tried is the Pepper Plum Powder ($4.50). This would be one from the POWDER series. I chose this as this was one of their Best Sellers as well. For those who don't like cream much but still wanne have these yummy fries, do try this! Totally makes for a perfect movie snack can!! Cinema right upstairs only somemore. LOL!

Ireland's potatoes bugis photo 3-2_zpsfdc48811.jpg

Next up, CHEESE based fries! This Cheese Pizza Fries ($5.30) is designed to taste like Cheese Pizza and it totally does. If you love the taste of pizzas, do NOT miss this!

If you can't make up your mind, then try the CREAM based dips!

Ireland's potatoes bugis photo 6-1_zpsa7438d4c.jpg

From the top left, we have:

• Fruit Cream (3 fruits but the passion fruit taste is most outstanding)
• Sour Cream (I still prefer sour cream doused with spring onions! :) )
• Honey Mustard (love)
• Wasabi Mayonnaise (I would love this to be more spicy but those who can't take spicy will love the subtle taste of wasabi in this)
• Pickle Mayonnaise
• Yogurt Cream (this is a very interesting taste. Tastes like strawberry flavour yum-yums... TRY IT!)

Yes people, I am not done yet. This is my favourite dish from Ireland's Potato!

Ireland's potatoes bugis photo 8-1_zpsee32cfbd.jpg

The Blarney Chicken Wings ($4.10) is a MUST-TRY, comes in drumlets-form too. I would totally return just for this. This is as addictive as the Pizza Hut's spicy drumlets. I bought more to bring home for supper too! *guilty* MUST-TRY OK!

Ireland's potatoes bugis photo 10_zpsf8370593.jpg

Check out the succulent, juicy meat on this man.

Last but not least, let's not forget another of their signatures, the Cheesy Baked Potato Skins ($8.90). It may be the most expensive item on their menu but it also has the most generous servings. For that price, you get 6 nicely toasted potato skins with freshly warmed cheese and bacons in it. Eat while it's warm and dip it in the sour cream served alongside! These potato skins are lovingly handmade by their staff! They take the potato and scrap out the insides to get the lovely skin served to you!

It is really one of a kind. I felt very guilty eating that but I can't deny it was tasty.

Drinks are pretty decent too. Check out their Royal Black Tea ($2.10) and the freshly-shaken-upon-order Honey Citron Tea ($3.50). The BF tried the sparkling drinks ($3.90 each but get it at $2.50 with any order of fries), I didn't try any sparkling drink cos it's just not my thing. He found it a little too sweet though.

Slimming 101 Singapore

Slimming 101 is a new slimming boutique in Singapore. If you wondered like I did, Slimming 101 is indeed a sister company to well-known Beijing 101.

Slim101 photo SAM_0273_zps2751c4e8.jpg

WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT SLIMMING 101

I've always heard of TCM's role in slimming but never seen it in practice here in Singapore. I always wanted to go to a TCM clinic and ask them about it but on hindsight, it might be better to go to a slimming centre like Slimming 101 where they both the weightloss high-tech machines and a TCM doctor that focuses on slimming.

Now I know you're thinking, aiya, this is just another slimming centre... think again. What sets Slimming 101 apart from the many other slimming brands is that they focus on the use of TCM to help you lose weight and fat. Slimming 101 treats your weight problem from inside out.

♥ Treatments with "Qi" philosophy by a certified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) physician
♥ No weight rebound
♥ Acupressure Body Massage
♥ TCM Diet Plan to improve body condition
♥ Latest technology slimming machine
♥ Use of botanical ingredients such as Rosemary, Lavender, etc.

It is a holistic approach to slimming. They are equipped with the latest machines for slimming and they have an in-house TCM doctor that provides acupuncture and other TCM treatments for total body weight loss too!

A TCM DOCTOR! What a surprise right? The doctor took my pulse (just like in the movies so exciting!) and somehow knew that I am not going to the toilet often enough. -.- So powerful. She also recommended for me to do acupuncture in my tummy and feet area to release toxins and help burn fat. How interesting.

If you're not sure if you're overweight, check out their online self evaluation here.

MY TREATMENT THERE

 photo SAM_0276_zpsaf87067e.jpg

At my recent trip there, I went for a hot sauna, followed by a Sea Salt Body Scrub to remove the dead skin on my body and allow for quicker fat burning. This was followed by a TCM massage which was focused on moving lymph through the body and help rid of waste in my body.

Our body's lymphatic system is essentially like our body's sewer system. These lymph vessels help us drain toxins in our body. This is relevant to weight-loss because if you have a lot of toxins in your body, your body will not be able to absorb nutrients or burn fat as effectively as it should.

My TCM masseuse is quite experienced. During the massage, she told me that the lymph nodes around my underarms are stuck and maybe that's why I haven't been able to lose more weight. She helped to press real hard on those stubborn lymph nodes. :) I think I should do this often on my own at home too.

Slim101 photo SAM_0281copy_zps9d2937ca.jpg

Thereafter I was also put under a Thermal Hot Blanket wrap that made me sweat soooo much! I stood up dripping with sweat! Its like I ran 5km, LOL!!

At the end of the whole treatment, I lost 0.5Kg. :)

Slim101 photo SAM_0288_zpsfb79546e.jpg

IN CONCLUSION...

I've always heard of TCM's role in slimming but never seen it in practice here in Singapore. I always wanted to go to a TCM clinic and ask them about it but on hindsight, it might have been a better choice to go to a slimming centre like Slimming 101 where they have both the weightloss high-tech machines and a TCM doctor that focuses on slimming.

Note that acupuncture or the use of machines for burning fat is NOT a miracle cure for your weight problems. My consultant at Slimming 101 stresses that to achieve good weight loss results from the program and maintaining your weight, treatment from Slimming 101 must be combined with healthy eating habits and regular exercises. The friendly consultants there will also be there to guide you on healthier food options. :)

Bliss House @ Clark Quay

 photo Foodreviews001_zps8488105c.png

Tucked away in Clarke Quay MRT's The Central is a cozy new themed restaurant called Bliss House. They serve up some innovative modern-european food in a beautiful garden setting.

And they have really gone all out on their restaurant decor, making it perfect for events and weddings! :)

Bliss House Clarke Quay Wedding Event Venue Singapore photo BlissHouseSg003_zps8bf58bc6.png

This is the spot quite a few couples have made their vows. Now check out what greeted me as I walked into the garden...

Bliss House Sg Clarke Quay photo BlissHouseSG008_zps402fc0c9.png

A life-sized carriage! *Squeals* Absolutely pretty to take photos with.

Bliss House Clarke Quay Wedding Event Venue Singapore photo BlissHouseSg004_zps57c0be98.png

An absolutely charming little bridge (over water... I will lay me down... like a... sorry, couldn't help it). And then there was more!

Bliss House Singapore Wedding Event Venue photo BlissHouseSg005_zpsa1975d25.png

This place is really as huge as it looks here! No mirror effect at all. It's such a surprise!

Beautiful views overlooking the main road. At 8pm and 9pm daily, there will be a light show over at Marina Bay Sands and you can see it all here if you get a seat by the huge floor to ceiling windows.

I can't get over how beautiful they made the whole place. There are two areas, the garden and the house. So now that you've seen the garden, let's go into another spacious area which they refer to as the house.

Bliss House Clarke Quay Wedding Event Venue photo BlissHouseSg001_zpse956e536.png

There's a grand piano for the occasional performances.

Bliss House Sg Clarke Quay photo BlissHouseSG007_zps9cf09a63.png

And in line with the house theme, there's a "fire" area where plush sofas are set up. Yes! You can dine here too if you want!

So anyhooooo, I was invited down for dinner one evening with some friends. We took loads of pictures and ate too much. :P

Bliss House SG food photo BlissHouseSGreviewFood002_zps94cac6e7.png

First up were the cocktails and mocktails. You have got to try it! I am a huge advocate of eating healthy whereever possible and these drinks here at Bliss House are made with the very freshest fruits! I know cos I sat at the bar and watched Bliss House's Resident Mixologist make each of the drinks!

I loved the Pear & Vanilla (the white one above) one that I had. It had a tinge of alcohol in it and tasted of vanilla. The pear in the drink was freshly crushed by the Mixologist! He took out a large china pear and skinned it on the spot before slicing and crushing it into the drink. He did the same for every drink! Talk about FRESHNESS!?!?!

He said he takes about 2-3mins to make each drink cos none of the ingredients are prepared in advance. All mocktails are at $9/- & cocktails are $12/-.

We also had Strawberry & Celery which I was afraid to taste at first (cos I detest celery) but I did take a sip eventually and omg! It was good! I will definitely be back for more drinks. We also had Apple & Rosemary and Grape & Mint cocktails. They all had unique flavours which were all refreshing and nice.

All of these drinks are also concocted by the Mixologist himself so you're not going to find this anywhere other than at Bliss House! :)

Bliss House SG food photo BlissHouseSGreviewFood001_zpsf50b25c3.png

I did say we overate right? Haha. We had 4 appetizers, top left clockwise down:

#1: Pan Seared U.S Diver Scallop - $24
Onion Confit with Caviar & Garlic Prawns on Semi Sundried Tomato Puree

I loved how generous the portions were. The prawns and scallop were all very huge! The tomato puree is such a surprise touch to this dish. It went very well with the juicy seafood.

I rate this: ★★★☆☆

#2: Quesadillas (Mexican Pancake) - $12
Pan-seared Flour Tortilla spread with Aioli, Coriander, Cumin, Chili Sauce, Spanish Onion, Roasted Chicken & Shredded Mozzarella

This is a 5-star dish!! The best rendition of Quesadilla I have ever had! It was panfried but not oily at all. I loved how the cheese went very well with the pancake portion. The ingredients inside the pancake gave crunch and oomph. Very very good!

I rate this: ★★★★★ (Must try!!)

#3: Caprese - $16
Buffalo Mozzarella, Tomato & Basil Pesto drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil

This is a very classic italian dish. The mozzarella is huge but when you bit into with the slice of fresh tomato, the flavours of each merge in a very interesting way that teases your tastebuds, making you want more.

I rate this: ★★★☆☆

#4: Baked Mushroom - $10
Baked Button Mushroom stuff with Ratatouille

This was another easy crowd favourite. The sauce that came with it was very strong but went very well with the mushroom. Loving the alfalfa garnish that helped to make this dish's flavour less strong.

I rate this: ★★★★☆ (Must try!!)

Bliss House SG food photo BlissHouseSGreviewFood003_zps066670a8.png

The mains came soon after the appetizers! Boy were we famished! :) Top left clockwise down:

#1: Capellini Prawns - $24
Angel Hair Pasta with Prawns, White Wine, Garlic, Cherry Tomato, Pine nuts, Chili, Basil & Arugula

My friends said this was nicer than most "aglioolio" in most other restaurants. Me? I loved the cheery tomatoes that lend sweetness to this this. The pine nuts gave it more texture. Oh yes, prawns were big and juicy too! Yummy!!

I rate this: ★★★☆☆

#2: Sea bream - $30
Wrap in crispy Phyllo on Butternut Pumpkin Puree top with Tomato Salsa & Micro Greens

This is such an interesting dish! A Bliss House recipe. Sea bream is essentially white fish wrapped in crispy Phyllo. I loved how crispy the outside was and how warm and soft the fish was inside. One of my friends voted this the best main of all that we ate.

I rate this: ★★★★☆ (Must try!!)

#3: Seafood Paella - $36
Spanish rice with Chorizo, Prawns, Squid, Mussels, Clams and Scallop served in a pan

The Seafood Paella had kinda strong flavours, but it was very nice. The rice was strongly flavoured and you could taste the essence of seasfood in it. The rice must have been cooked well with seafood to give it the lovely taste. The portion could be bigger though! I voted this as the best main! :)

I rate this: ★★★★☆

#4: Blisshouse Supreme Pizza - $24
Italian Pork Salami, Roasted Chicken, Olives, Onion, Chili, Pineapple & roasted Capsicum

This is thin crust made right. I tried their Supreme Pizza which was their recommended dish. It was warm and had just enough crisp on the edges of the crusts. The pineapples on the pizza was yumminess. This dish gets 4/5 stars! :)

I rate this: ★★★★☆

Desserts were next and seriously, we rated all desserts at least 4 out of 5 stars. It was reallyyyyy good!

Bliss House SG food photo BlissHouseSGreviewFood004_zpsc5859df5.png

#1: Traditional Italian style homemade Tiramisu - $11
Dusted with shaved Valrhona Dark Chocolate.

My friend, Wei Shan loved this very much. It had freshly shaved chocolate flakes instead of the usual coffee powder dusted on top of the Tiramisu, giving it a rustic look. Looks aside, the texture was really soft (if you're a fan of soft Tiramisu, this is recommended!) and unlike other Tiramisu you find elsewhere, this Tiramisu is not overly sweet and has enough alcohol in there for a small oomph. Definitely wasn't overpowering.

I rate this: ★★★★☆

#2: Sticky Date Pudding - $10
With Butterscotch Sauce

Now listen up. I don't do dates. I just don't like dates. Ok fine, I don't know how dates taste like cos I don't like how they look. And sticky dates? Ugh

But boy am I a fan after this dessert. The pudding was in front of me and it had a interesting cake-like texture and it was dark... made it look like some yummy chocolate cake. So I took a bite and wow. I loved it! I'm a convert! It went really well with the cold ice cream that came with it too.

I rate this: ★★★★☆

#3: Creme Brulee - $9

Creme brulee is such a classic dessert like Tiramisu. My friend, Angeline voted this dish her favourite. I found the layer of burnt caramel on top very tasty and addictive! As you scooped gently past the burnt caramel surface, you get into sweet, milky egg-like custard. I have a sweet tooth and love desserts. But even as I crave for desserts, I always appreciate if the dessert isn't excessively sweet. A balance that is delicate to manage given that every customer has their own preference. For us, we loved this Creme Brulee at Bliss House as it is.

I rate this: ★★★★☆

#4: Warm Flourless Valrhona Dark Chocolate Cake - $12
With single scoop of Vanilla Ice cream

This is my personal favourite and since I am writing this post, I will give it 5 stars! Haha! This was soooo sinful but oh-so-good. It was very rice, chocolate-ly and had nuts in there that gave the cake superb texture. Kinda like a brownie actually. The ice cream was cold, creamy and went very well with the cake. ❤!!

I rate this: ★★★★★ (Must try!!)

And in between meals, we also had time to explore the "house" section and take some photos :)
