Sculptra at Halley Medical Aesthetics
I am very pleased with my Ultherapy session with Halley Medical Aesthetics previously. You can read about how Ultherapy has helped me achieved significant firmer skin and slimmer face on my previous posts. After 6 weeks, I am back to Halley Medical Aesthetics to fill up the indentation on my face especially the nasolabial folds (smile lines) with Sculptra treatment. As we age, we constantly loses our collagen and therefore our skin loses it supple-ness and volume so areas on the face looks sunken.
Above photo is me with Dr Terence Tan from Halley Medical Aesthetics who is committed to make me look years younger 🙂 🙂 🙂 !!!
With medical advances for aesthetics that is constantly improving. Other than botox and fillers, the recently very popular phenomenal for looking younger is Sculptra Treatment. It is great now to have more options as I prefer the more ”natural” way to stimulate growing new collagen.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a medical product used to fill up defects of the skin. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator.
How is it different to fillers?
While Sculptra itself does not providing the filling action, it causes a reaction in the skin to stimulate the formation of new collagen.
The Sculptra™ product itself is digested by the skin and is gone about two years after a treatment, but the new collagen layer which is left behind may last two or more years.
Firstly, Dr Terence Tan examined my face on screen, comparing my photos now with those taken before my Ultherapy treatment as part of the review process. Then he looked at my face as we discussed and determined which part of my face Sculptra is recommended. Dr Terence Tan used a white highlighter to mark out the areas that he wants to fix. Actually quite many areas was marked. I thought I only needed my smile lines done at first.
As you can see from the photo below, the side of my forehead, under eyes area, nasolabial folds(smile lines) and the area below my mouth is is indented. *loss of collagen*
I was asked if I was comformtable with the areas suggested before we proceed.
After explaining how the effect of Sculptra will fill up the areas marked and making sure that I am ok with it, Dr Terence Tan started applying the numbing cream for me on the areas to be treated.
Seeing Dr Terence is always such a delight.*smiling photos as always*
You can see below that I am very comfortable and totally no stress with the needles that is coming next.
You might be curious what was that pack of thing that says Sculptra on it? It is actually an ice pack to help numb the treatment area further and make the procedure a more comfortable one.
Dr Terence Tan, explained that Sculptra itself is in powder form and will be mixed with a liquid that contains anaesthetic and then injected under the skin in the area to be treated using several injections per area. Therefore, it is normal for the face to have temporary numbness or tingling in the treated area due to the anaesthetic which may last less than two to three hours.
Dr Terence Tan patiently explained the BEFORE and AFTER CARE while waiting for the numbing cream to take effect(about 15 mins).
After wiping off the numbing cream, Dr Terence Tan mark the areas to be injected again with the white highlighter.
My main concern is if there will be bruising like blue black after the injection, Dr Terence Tan told me since he had done this for a long time now, he knows where are the major veins with his experience and where to avoid so there will be less chances of bruising occurs. When the first needle went into my skin, I immediately confirms that Dr Terence Tan is a very experience doctor because his insertion of the needle was very fast and precise. Before I even have the chance to feel afraid or have any pain, the needle is out and done already.
*happy smile* Side of the Forehead, both sides done.
Pain level if you ask me, I would rate it 2/10 like a tiny ant bite because the face is already quite numbed with the application of the numbing cream before the treatment and the anesthetic in the Sculptra liquid injected. Even my lip felt numb and tingling after the injection at the area below my mouth.
The treated areas may be mildly sore for up to three days after treatment.
My skin is mildly red for about 1 – 2 days after the treatment. The areas injected looked a little puffy with the injected liquid but this is normal. It goes away totally on the 3rd day although Dr Terence did told me that I may have puffiness (not severe) for up to 10 days after the procedure.
This is simply due to the water used to carry Sculptra into your skin and most of this is reabsorbed within the first week.
The effect of Sculptra will be slow and gradual as your skin forms collagen around the product crystals.
Best results are seen after three months when the new collagen forms to fill up the sunken areas.
The only thing to watch out is that you must find a trusted Doctor that doesn’t over inject as this procedure is not reversible like hyaluronic acid filler that can be dissolved. Therefore, it is better to inject a safe amount first, let it absorb into the skin for 6 weeks and then review if more is needed after.
That is why it is important to tell your doctor what you hope to achieve and discuss treatment goals before you proceed so as to minimise any undesired result
Treatment sessions are generally spaced four to eight weeks apart. Deep defects may require three to five treatment sessions; persons with lesser skin defects can often be treated with as little as one to two sessions.
Treatments every one to three years is recommended to reverse the natural loss of tissue volume due to ageing.
As there will be intense new collagen production in the injected areas which has formed deep in the skin so it is important to prevent small “bumps” that form deep in the skin in the treated areas, which may or may not become visually apparent.
Therefore after each Sculptra treatment, it is important to remember to to deeply massage the treated area for 5 minutes, five times a day, for the next five days.
Below is the BEFORE and AFTER 6 weeks photo for comparison. 🙂 🙂 🙂
