My Experience of Laser Treatment For Stretch Marks at Astique Clinic
Stretch Marks is one of the most daunting after effects of pregnancy. Those streaks or stripes on the stomach can be quite unsightly.
I have been applying bio-oil diligently throughout my whole pregnancy but still I get the stretch marks.
My stretch marks used to be purple and red in colour but over 20 months(Jack is 20 month old now), it had become white mostly but I am very conscious of the stretch marks so I would never dare to wear short length tops because I was afraid if I were to raise my arms or if my top flew up, people can see those horrible cracked looking stretch marks that I have.
The aesthetics laser treatments are getting more and more advance nowadays. I have seen my friends who used to have very bad acne scars recovering very well with laser treatments. Laser treatments are not only good for treating acne scars but also stretch marks as well.
The most common and effect laser treatment targeting stretch marks is Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing.
Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing targets white-coloured stretch marks, which may not experience improvements similar to that of red stretch marks. The appearance of white-coloured stretch marks can be improved moderately.
Recently, I went to try out some stretch marks treatment at Astique Clinic. Above picture shows my troubled face pouring out my sorrows about my stretch marks and changes with my body after pregnancy.
I met Dr Celine and I must say I was really impressed with Dr Celine for such high level of concern and care for her patients. She knew I was going overseas after the treatment and followed up with my recovery through Whatsapp regularly. She didn’t mind me sending photos of my recovery process to her and my countless questions to her on the treatment and after care.
Dr Celine is very friendly and I felt that she really understands what I want to achieve in lightening the stretch marks since she is a mother of 2 children herself.
Dr Celine suggested that I start with high intensity LED light treatment every week and then Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing about once a month depending on my skin recovery after the first laser treatment.
The treatment rooms are very comfortable and I lie under the LED light for about 15 minutes. It just feels warm and there is no pain or downtime for this non-invasive treatment.
LED light benefits includes
– Tightening and firming
– Lightening of Dark Spots
– Stimulating the growth of Collagen
– Speeds recovery
After the LED light Treatment, they applied numbing cream on my stomach for about 15 minutes before the laser treatment.
I was pretty nervous but Dr Celine actually used a tissue box to demonstrate the effect of the lasers for me to see and understand before she started the treatment on my flesh. It does help to calm me down a lot since I didn’t know what to expect. She told me that the lasers will create many small little holes on the surface of the skin and that she is going to run the laser carefully over the areas with stretch marks.
The treatment took merely 5 minutes and you can see a photo of my stomach after. It is quite red but I think it is ok for stomach area since I am not gonna be flashing my stomach to anyone or sun tan in the next couple of weeks.
The pain level after the numbing cream is quite bearable but after the numbing cream wears off the pain level increases. You will feel a burning sensation on your skin. I would rate 4/10 pain level during treatment and 6/10 for after the effect of numbing cream wears off. Do prepare that it would be quite sore for the 1st one to two days after the treatment.
Dr Celine suggested applying Vitamin C and Bio-oil for faster and better recovery which I think works really well for me so far.
One good tip is to use cling film to cover your treatment area during your shower. Not that your skin cannot touch water but it is quite sore during the shower for the one to two days. So maybe covering it while you shower is better.
Unlike the LED light treatment which has no downtime, Fractional Laser Skin surface does have some down time. Your skin will be red and sensitive for a few days. It is very important that during the recovery, you should not have excessive sweating or get the skin expose to the sun.
After a few days, your skin will darken for about 2 -3 weeks while the dead skin on the treated areas will become rough. The dead skin will fall off slowly. The important thing is to let the skin falls off as slowly and as gently as possible so that the healing and results will be better. Do not rub and scratch your skin as it might feel quite itch at times.
Below photo is on Day 2 after laser it is very red and raw. Need to take good care as skin is still painful at this stage.
Below photo taken is on Week 1. Skin looks very dark and the scab is hard and rough.
Below photo taken is on Week 2. Scab is falling off and skin slowly start to lighten.
Below photo taken is on Week 3. All scab has mostly fallen off and skin is healing and lightening.
Lastly here is a photo of 4 months after the treatment for comparison after stretch marks lightened.
