M Cuisine Private Dining at Home in Taipei
My stomach has not been so happy for such a long time enjoying a special high quality yet relaxing dinner with my taiwanese friends at the comfort of a home private dining by M Cuisine when I was in Taipei.
I got to know Ada Li who is a popular taiwanese blogger back September 2014 when I went to Taiwan. Briefly met her husband Mike who is a blue belt Michelin chef trained in New York for many years when we went to 鼎泰丰for dinner that time. This time when I went there last week, I got the 口福 pleasure to be invited by Ada and Mike to taste the exquisite food speciality prepared by Mike for us. It’s only the first week of March and their ‘home restaurant’ was already pre-booked and full until end of April already. So yeah, it’s really an honour for them to squeeze us into their busy schedule.
This is Ada’s and Mike’s home – very chic and modernly decorated in a good area in Da An. 大安區和平東路二段311巷
I feel that most fine dining restaurants that I have visited before are overrated and to be honest the food plays a much bigger part compared to the atmosphere. Often, I have been disappointed with the food for fine dining menu even when the place looks super nice and grand. But not this time! You will see what I meant if you read on for my introduction of what we had that evening.
Let me introduce the menu of that evening!
When I saw the menu, I think my saliva want to drip out already. It was a 7 course dinner for 4 pax. Me, Tiffany Yong, Doctor Jenny Tsai and doctor Jenny’s sister Grace. We can take all the time we want to eat each course before they serve on the next and we can laugh and talk as loud as we want because THERE IS ONLY US! Private dining remember? Heheheee 🙂
Besides it was the 3rd day after my nose surgery and I am very conscious when I am eating out because of the bandage on my nose. It was so nice to be in a nice warm home because this winter was errrr bit cold.
First on the menu is Baby Squid with Bamboo, Chayote, Leeks and Paprika. When I bite into the bamboo, I was expecting hard but it was so soft. The other vegetables and herbs compliments the dish really nicely too.
All their dishes was served and decorated on tiles. Really nice idea! Good big area to place the food and get it nicely spread out for everyone.
Second dish was the Scallop with Baby corn, Fava Beans, English Peas, Coppa and Beurre Blanc. Just look at the close up photo of the scallop below. So fat and juicy. I can still remember how sweet and juicy it tasted making my mouth water as I typed out this blog post. The Fava Beans was really crunchy. I remember we cleared every dish to the last bit of it. EMPTY DISHES from start to end!
Even though my face was swelling and looking like a puffy puffer fish on that day being the third day of my rhinoplasty, I still can’t help it but to take photo with the food because the dishes just look so pretty.
Next on the menu was Soup Du Jour with Yam, Kielbasa, Fregola. Most of the food was indeed very french style but I feel it surely suit both asian and caucasian taste buds. Managed to take some nice photos of the soup before it was gobbled up in no time by the 4 of us.
We went into the kitchen to be a busy body for a bit to see PRO CHEF MIKE at work.
So much hard work has to go into preparing all the food. Ingredients cooked seperately even if what you see to you might just be a plate of Risotto.
Below is Risotto with carnaroli, wild mushrooms, parmesan and Truffle oil.
Below is the daily catch with Asparagus, baby cabbage, cherry tomato, onion foam. The fish just melted in my mouth. I can tell the fish is really fresh because totally no fishy smell at all. I wanted more but too bad one piece per person.
After finishing the fish, I was already really full! The food were all quite filling. I did not know if I could take on the next dishes with all the meats.
N.Y Steak, Lamb Duo, Chicken Breast and Pork Tenderloin!!!
I usually hate to eat Chicken Breast because it is the driest part of the chicken. But I don’t know how Mike manage to cook it to make it so juicy and soft that if you don’t tell me that it was breast meat, I will not even believe it.
Lamb Duo. The lamb meat cooked perfectly as well. And you see the lamb bone swapped in the tin foil? Can be eaten too. There were still bits of meat on it that was so crunchy and savoury. Very special, first time in my life I had enjoyed left over meat that much on a bone in that way. 🙂
The N.Y Steak.
I felt so stuffed with food that’s up to my neck that I wanted to maybe skip the desert. But…… When they serve the Fruit Crepe, I tell myself that I cannot miss out on this. Because one again, it is not just average simple Fruit Crepe.
Mike had self made the whipped cream that is so fresh, and he came out to us to show us how he put bubbles into the fruits. The fruits was infused with gas. Hahahaa. 🙂 When you bite into the fruit, it is like hundreds of bubbles bursting in your mouth which is really cool. Best thing is he did not even add any sugar and the fruits are already so sweet.
I managed to shaft the last dish into my tummy.
There are grapes, orange, grapefruit and Almonds.
4 very full and happy ladies spoiled by all these great tasting food. I liked all of the dishes. Each of them very appetising and unique in their own way.
I am sure you might be scrolling up and down looking for the price of this private home dining with a highly qualified great chef, here it is for per person:
NT $2800 Taiwanese Dollars – $118 Singapore Dollars – $85 USD
Totally so worth it and reasonable for what you are getting. I am sure to go again the next time I am in Taiwan.
Mike teaches cooking and train students to make many different dishes during the day. So during the day, the place is has cooking classes going on.
They usually do not have a fix menu as well, so you are free to request for the type of food you like. Put in special request on what you don’t like even. They will be happy to tailor your food for you.
