River Safari @ Singapore Zoological Garden !
Hello , from my title you guys should already know what i’m going to talk about today already ! Yes , it’s about the new attraction at Singapore Zoological Garden !
RIVER SAFARI ~
it’s time to already yo ~
Mascots of Jia Jia & Kai Kai & Red Panda .
First , it’s the Alligator Snapping Turtle
cant blame me , the turtle is too shy to turn over to say hi D: !
Alligator Snapping Tutle is one of the largest freshwater turtles in the world. Males can weigh over 100kg. Their massive jaws are so powerful, they can easily snap off one’s finger. (SCARY)
but this is how a Alligator Snapping Turtle looks like .
The flat snout detects electric impulses to navigate and locate food. Paddlefish eggs are sold as caviar (eaten as a delicacy). its cousin, the Chinese paddlefish, is critically endangered.
African Dwarf Crocodile
Do you know African dwarf crocodile is seldom hunted. WHY ?
African dwarf crocodile has an Armour of bony plates makes its skin too rough for good quality leather. its scientific name osteolaemus means “bony throat”.
Giant Puffer Fish
their teeth are very sharp & they eat meats .
Some kind of cat fish
The gharial got its name from the Hindi word “ghara” which means “pot”. This bump at the tip of male’s snout is believed to amplify buzzing sounds made during courtship.
Crocodile has a long and pointed snout. fourth tooth on lower jaw is visible when mouth is closed.
Caiman is close relative of the alligator. The smallest crocodilian is the dward caiman.
Alligators has a shorter and rounded snout. teeth on lower jaw cannot be seen when mouth is shut. has a “smiley” face.
Indian Gharial has the thinnest snout among all crocs. Sharp teeth for catching fish and males have a “bump” on the snout.
False Ghavial has broader snout than the gharial. the word ” ghavial” started out as a misspelling of ” gharial”.
Crab-eating Macaque (sorry uh , all backside pictures , HAHAH)
This intelligent monkey lives in troops of 15-30. it swims well and sometimes hunts for crabs. It is also called the long-tailed macaque.
Giant Mekong Catfish
Unlike other catfish, the mekong giant catfish is toothless and lacks barbels or “whiskers”. it is a vegetarian giant and feeds mainly on plant matter and algae .

The secretive reptile is also known as the chinese alligator. in winter, it digs a burrow and hibernates for up to 7 months. it grows up to 40kg and 2m long !
Chinese Giant Slamander (sorry , reflection )
the world’s largest amphibian, reaching 1.8m and 30kg. it has poor eyesight and hunts mainly by sensing vibrations. Lifespan is over 50 years in captivity but it is excessively collected in the wild for the food trade.
Sturgeons are as old as dinosaurs. Instead of scales, they are covered with bony plates called scutes. this cartilaginous (Having a skeleton of cartilage) fish can live for more than 100 years.

RED PANDA !
The red panda is also known as “fire fox”. it is more closely related to the raccoon and weasel than the giant panda.

Finally, we’ve reached the Panda’s area .

they are feed with bamboo – 20kg , high fibre biscuits – 1kg , carrots – 400g, apples – 200g (that day, they have different menu for them everyday)
when we entered the air conditioned area , we saw staffs there holding boards showing “shhhh” & ” no running” . cause we might disturbed or scare the pandas. they’re asleep that time.

Red-Bellied Piranha (still exist)
Despite a blood thirsty reputation, the piranha usually consumes dead or weakened animals, it acts as a scavenger and keeps rivers clean. when food is scarce, it may resort to cannibalism.
Some weird fish tht i’ve forgotten what is it .
Okay , actually thats all for my river safari trip 😀 ! i walked the whole zoo ! the boat is not ready yet ~
