Hi guys, been awhile since I last updated this space. Hope everyone’s rocking the last quarter of 2018. Getting married usually means a lot of change is coming, and with the wedding coming up in approximately 2 months, I have been swarmed with work assignments and wedding planning details. With the increasing warmer climate in Singapore, what steps are you taking to protect your skin? The urban lifestyle we are in exposes our face to many forms of harmful environmental factors, including fine particles pollution, toxic gases, and of course the most damaging of them all – ultraviolet (UV) rays! A very short blog post revealing my go-to places for good desserts (plus these are all stunning cafes worthy of your instagram feed) that you won’t regret going.
ONE. Paddy Hills – for the BEST Pancake in Singapore
I don’t know if I would regret publicizing this place because this is my ULTRA FAVORITE café. Everything I tried (mains, desserts and even drinks) at Paddy Hills are all SO GOOD and photogenic-looking so far. The Berry Ricotta pancake is crispy on the outside and buttery soft in the inside; it melts in your mouth and has a generous serving of berries! Freshly made upon ordering, there are only limited pieces per day. Curious Palette has a similar version but Paddy Hill’s version wins hand down. To date, I think this is really my NUMBER ONE favourite dessert in Singapore (not joking).
Visit them at 38 South Buona Vista Road Singapore 118164
TWO. The Plain Jane & Rich & Good Cake Shop – for Swiss Roll
Located within Serangoon heartlands lie a small cosy café which specializes in a handful of different flavours of Swiss Rolls (Earl Grey, Matcha, Strawberry Yogurt, Thai Milk Tea, etc). And on an usual basis, you will get to meet Jane, the lady boss, whom is a passionate entrepreneur who shares about her bakes with a lot of enthusiasm. On my second visit, she nicely offered 2 new flavours for our table to try (all thanks to K whom is a regular at The Plain Jane!). All the flavours were good, but I only have eyes on the original flavour of their Swiss Roll. Each swiss roll is pillow soft and the inner filling is smooth and creamy (not jiat-lat at all)! A pity that The Plain Jane doesn’t have Durian flavoured Swiss Roll; so if you are a fan of Durian (like me!), you can also try Rich & Good Cake Shop for your durian fix.
Visit The Plain Jane at Block 211 Serangoon Ave 4 #01-10 Singapore 550211 and Rich & Good Cake Shop at 24 Kandahar Street Singapore 198887.
THREE. Sinpopo Brand
Many cafes dot along Joo Chiat Road, as I was there walking towards Awfully Chocolate wanting to get my favourite HEI ice cream, my friends and I stumbled upon Sinpopo Brand Café and was drawn in. There were many seats available on a weekend night, and we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Frisee Salad with Crispy Muah Chee, Orange Kaya Pisang Crème Brulee (too sweet to my liking L), Pandan Tart, Katong Jelly drink and Sng Muay Pop. Everything we tried was ordinary but the PANDAN TART was da bomb! (Not sure if my review is bias because I love everything pandan flavoured) The pandan tart has a light pandan frangrant and it has a velvety smooth and soft texture which balances out nicely with the tart pastry.
Slightly over-priced, but I am planning a second trip to try their Pandan soufflé and Durian Pengat which were both sold out that night. If any of you have tried, please write me your reviews too heh.
Visit them at 458 Joo Chiat Road Singapore 427671
I am looking forward to more sweet adventures this year, talk to me and write to me at firstname.lastname@example.org about your favourite dessert haunts as well!

Attended MicaBeauty’s Know Your Skin private event with my beautiful Cindy two weeks back, and was introduced to the varied skincare and make-up products from MicaBeauty.
A U.S. brand, MicaBeauty, it carries 100% all natural cosmetics and I was won over with the Jewels range, which is an anti-aging line with organic extracts (including gold dust, diamond dust, pearl dust and gemstone dust) to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Never too young to start equipping myself with these anti-aging tips yo!
Through the session, I learnt about Mica’s minimalist approach to skincare and that Mica is actually an ingredient that imparts a sparkly white appearance to cosmetics and personal care products. By the way, the Jewels line is both luxurious looking and highly coveted.
Here, I am holding on to the Gold Plasma Night Recovery Serum. It is a late night recovery treatment to fight signs of aging, allowing you to wake up to a more beautiful skin every day.
What amazed me that session is this Volcanic Sauna Masque that is powered by heat technology. The volcanic ash ingredient helps absorbs oil and debris trapped deep within pore, which is to my delight as I get small pimples on my face very easily! So I love anything that can deep cleanse my skin. The masque is recommended to be used with the Recovery Activating Serum, and the warm feeling generated by the serum feels so comfortable and good on the skin. It is like hot sauna for the pores! Volcanic ash is known to have many benefits which include reducing cellulite, sun damage and even wrinkles. I tried the masque on my hand that session and my hand felt so sparkly clean without the aftermath tightness that other brands of masks leave.
MicaBeauty also has a series of mineral make-up products, consisting of all-natural powders and minerals to suit all skin types. I chose a couple of their glittery eyeshadow colours (see below for the insane number of colours available!) which I am saving to use for CNY; so, do look out for reviews on my IG (@JacelynPhang) to find out how I rate the products!
MicaBeauty is located at Chinatown Point #01-13 and Vivocity #02-162, feel free to check them out if you are around the area. 🙂
Here’s wishing everyone a prosperous and beautiful year ahead in 2017! Happy New Year friends!

ilight marina bay is Asia’s leading sustainable light art festival; happening from 4 -27 March (admission is completely free), you can expect to see kaleidoscopic display of light installations and be serenaded by live music performances along marina bay.
This is the forth edition of the light art festival, but my very first visit. I started my walk from Marina Bay Sands, and am pleasantly surprised by the number of people I see at the pop up stalls of Pasar Bella and how happening the area is! You can expect to see flea market vendors at the Marina Waterfront Bazaar, musical acts at the festival stage and Uncle Ringo’s carnival games! There’s basically something to see and play for people of all ages to enjoy.
For a person who loves taking photo, there are a couple of places for you to grab images. and this is my favorite photo of the night!
I had a lot of fun looking at the different installations while keeping my tummy happy by getting food options from pop-up store of Haagen Dazs and food truck like Old Chang Kee. P.S. this is usually how I look because I love stuffing my face silly with food!
Lastly, I really like that the participating artists make use of recyclable materials and adopted energy-efficient lighting technology for some of their installations. As Leonardo DiCarprio said, “Let’s not take this planet for granted”, so let us collectively actively promote and remind each other to practice an environmentally responsible behavior for a sustainable future.
Do visit the festival if you are around the area!

If you are still looking for staycation options for year-end parties with your significant other or your bffs, give Studio M a try!
Located at No 3 Nanson Road (nearest MRT: Clarke Quay), Studio M is the first hotel in Singapore to feature loft-style rooms. Expect full-length windows and lots of natural sunlight for great OOTD shots (perfect for me!). Why Studio M? Simply because I saw so many nice photos of it on Instagram and the price is reasonable!
Two weeks ago, I booked a 2D1N stay for a short stay at the Studio Loft (cheapest option!) for $198/night and was surprised with an upgrade to Premier Loft (around $280/night) when checking-in. Check in was smooth on a Friday afternoon and we were granted a later check out time (1.30pm) upon request.
The package includes unlimited Internet access, complimentary breakfast for 2 and complimentary car parking (warning: car park spaces are limited, whenever I return from shopping, there are only 1 or 2 slots available. So make sure you are not staying out too late!).
Premier loft has the bed on the upper floor and a working table on level one. Making it a great option for business travellers too! Oh, don’t expect nice view out from the window, as there are no other things than tall buildings.
Studio M offers a minimalist interior and a decent comfort level for a short stay. The downside however is that… the shower area and the toilet cubicle are really awfully small. I am not fat, and I find the space rather restrictive, so imagine how small it is.

Breakfast had a variety of options like bacon, sausages, hash browns, salad, porridge, bread, and an egg cooking station. I liked that breakfast was in an al fresco setting, allowing me to soak in some sunlight (my favorite activity ever since my bone fracture because the doctor says I have insufficient Vitamin D level).
The egg cooking station was a distance away from the main area serving food so both me and my friend didn’t even notice the station until it was closed 🙁

Had a lot of errands that weekend so I didn’t get to enjoy the amenities (swimming pool, Jacuzzi and gym) but the deck at level 2 is worth checking out! It has multiple seating areas and spacious cabanas that are good for you and your friends to chill.
Opposite the hotel was the The Book Café which I fell in love with! For individuals who love to read, this is the perfect place for you as The Book Café has several hundred books and magazines that are free for browsing. The sofas are so comfy that I stayed the whole afternoon in the café to get some work done. Oh, not forgetting that they have free wireless internet access and also offer printing services. P.S. Studio M residents get a 20% discount; you only have to show your hotel’s access card!
Overall, I did thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Studio M. Staff were friendly and helpful; and if you are just looking for a short getaway to rest and recharge, or even spending some me-time over a weekend, I highly recommend a staycation at Studio M Hotel.
I am always on a lookout for good staycation options; if you have other places you would recommend, write to me!
Happy holidays all! <3
With much love, Jacelyn
