The west side of Singapore is always thought to be boring and ulu, hence, I would like to introduce 5 spots where I frequent.
Come during daytime, there is plenty of natural light in the café. Be warned that it gets pretty packed during weekends (you’ll see many students studying or doing their work in the café). Go early to get the best seats.
Address: 21 Lorong Kilat, Singapore 598123. Opening Hours: (Sun to Thur) 11am – 10pm, (Fri to Sat) 11am – 11pm. Nearest MRT: Beauty World MRT (5-7 minutes walking distance)
If you love pastel background, this is heaven! Gillman Barracks houses celebrated art galleries and is the new hip-photoshoot area in Singapore. Be warned that the toilet is quite a walk away, so bring a foldable tent where you can change, otherwise, be prepared to get all sweaty whilst walking.
Address: 9 Lock Road, Singapore 108937. Nearest MRT: Labrador Park (10 minutes walking distance)
3. Ngee Ann Polytechnic
This is my FAVV place lately, it is empty (almost everywhere) during weekends and there are lots of insta-worthy backgrounds. Downside is, you’ve got to walk from buildings to buildings to find a backdrop which you like, it will be a hassle if you don’t drive!
Address: 535 Clementi Road, Singapore 599489.
You should have guessed by now, I like going to schools or institutions for my photos. They have lots of restrooms around, therefore it is so easy to get changed into different outfits (and toilet is usually quite clean hehe). Be warned that food options are limited during weekends, so make sure that you have taken your meal before shooting!
5. Tiong bahru
Walk around Tiong Bahru area, and you’ll get to capture many nice photos. Talk to the café owners, most of them are pretty nice to let me take shots inside their café (even without any purchase); and I love ending my shoot w/ a good feast at Tiong Bahru. My must have would be either the famous chwee kueh in Tiong Bahru Market or a sweet treat from Creamier. that’s worth every calorie.
Nearest MRT: Tiong Bahru (10 minutes walking distance)
Hope this helps my fellow westies in finding locations to shoot! Of course, there’s also Chinese Garden, NUS, IKEA Alexandra and more which is worth exploring. Drop me a “<3” in the latest post on my instagram (@JacelynPhang) should you wish that I can share more OOTD spots for you!
With love, Jacelyn
