Our eyes are the window to our souls; it is often the first feature that catches another person’s attention when meeting someone new. Our pair of eyes can scarily also tell many things, whether it is your age, emotion or health. As beautiful as our Caldecott queen Zoe Tay is, it is hard not to spot her fine lines around her eye area on High Definition television now. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Zoe Tay and I love that she advocates aging gracefully, yet wrinkles are sometimes still a little bit distracting for me. These fine lines scream AGE.
My issue is not so much for the wrinkles YET, but for the longest time, I had been battling with sunken eyes and dark under eye circles due to poor blood circulation around my eyes area. Eye bags could be caused by a variety of different reasons, including diet (high salt intake), lifestyle (late nights), stress, dehydration and genetics. As we age, the eyes are usually the first area to show signs of aging and fatigue since the skin around the eyes is the thinnest. Correcting this problem is what I have always wanted; read here to see part one of the story “Jacelyn X Halley Medical Aesthetics: Consultation on my 1st EVER filler”; and in this second blogpost, I’ll be sharing more on the Filler Process and Results.
Expert opinion from Dr Terence Tan
For my situation, I knew I don’t want to correct the loss of volume around my eye area with a surgery; I was looking for something that has the wow factor, which is quick and easy with NO DOWNTIME.
For a non-surgical approach, Dr Terence Tan from Halley Medical Aesthetics suggested Restylane Perlane and Restylane Vital, a kind of hyaluronic acid base filler, for my treatment. The filler can help to fill up indentation, improve tear troughs, and remedy imperfections under the eyes. When Restylane is injected, it helps to make the eyes appear better-rested and fuller.
Restylane is a biocompatible and biodegradable product, which means that it is not harmful to the body and is broken down and removed from the body naturally. In other words, it is SAFE to be injected into human body. Together with the use of this “Magic Needle”, this procedure is recommended by Dr Tan as one of the most effective ways to reduce under eye bags with no down time.
The procedure only took 10 minutes, it was nothing nerve wrecking or scary mainly because Dr Tan would always take time to explain each step of the procedure to me. I rested on a comfy big chair with a comfy towel covering my legs, and was surprised by how minimal the pain was.
A cooling numbing cream was first applied on my eye area followed by the application of an ice pack. When Dr Tan started the procedure, I didn’t even feel the needle poking underneath my skin, I was still smiling to the camera, because I didn’t feel any pain at all. To be honest, my tolerance of pain is rather low, you would most probably hear me screaming from the top of lungs even if I accidentally hit onto anything (whether it is the edge of the table or the corner of a chair). Yet, with Dr Tan’s careful and intricate application, the process was NEARLY pain-free.
Dr Tan used the “sandwich technique” which involved injecting the Restylane Perlane, which is a firmer filler below for lift first before injecting Restylane Vital, which is a softer filler to smooth out the fine wrinkles. This resulted in a more natural look.

As the eye area is generally more sensitive, I was expecting bruises, swelling, or redness; but I got NONE of these at all.
I absolutely saw a difference in my eyes and with the new enhanced volume; you can see that my skin around the eye area is revitalized INSTANTLY. The “hollowness” under the eyes disappeared and there is also a notable enhanced cheek area.
I was smiling ear to ear in this photo which was taken immediately after my filler procedure because I am SO pleased with the results.
1) There was no surgical scarring for such non-invasive treatment
2) There was no overnight hospital stay and I could get on with my normal daily routine right away!
3) This means no time off work and NO DOWNTIME!
4) This would also mean that I would use less time on my make up routine to cover my eye bags (which always seem to look unnatural anyway).
In my opinion, for whatever procedure that you are keen to do, it is very important that you do it with a highly experienced and trustworthy doctor. Even though fillers seem like a simple and low risk injection, it really requires the right skills to target the proper depth and anatomical safety boundaries to get excellent results.
My personal reason for liking Dr Tan has got to be his professionalism. I actually turned up at Halley Medical Aesthetics for my fillers appointment one day before my Miss Singapore International 2016 auditions. However, upon knowing this information, Dr Tan rejected and refused to do the filler injection on that visit. Side effects as mentioned include swelling, bruising and redness; and Dr Tan would rather not have me take the 5% probability of bruise factor which might affect my performance for my audition the next day. He chose to do the right thing instead of proceeding with the procedure.
Unlike other doctors who do not give personal touch, I find it comfortable with Dr Tan because he would always try to understand the requirements of his patients better before suggesting any procedures. Knowing that I am very conservative when it comes to appearance enhancing procedures, he did a great job educating me about the information of fillers, its risks, its effects, and addressed every fear I had about it.
All in all, no matter how far you would go for your pursuit of beauty, always be safe; and I know I am in safe hands with Halley Medical Aesthetics.
For those who are interested in the cost of the products used for me, it is as below:
– 1 syringe of Restylane Perlane $780
– 1 syringe of Restylane Vital $650
