Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz – an inevitable sound we hear on repeat ever so frequently here in Singapore. And to make matters worse, the Zika virus has most recently made its way to our shores and done some damage. So as more and more clusters and cases are being reported, we all need to amp up our anti-mozzie game pronto – myself included! I tried out a few options to see what worked best for me so just in case you’re thinking of stocking up on the right gear, continue reading as I do a review on both lotions and sprays!
As it is with applying sunblock, mosquito repellant seems to have become a necessity. I’m not sure about you but I get a little lazy to add these to my daily skincare routine and it’s really time to change that. I guess it can be a hassle to lather on thick, creamy and sticky concoctions but thankfully, the ones that I tried from Off! and Tiger Balm don’t leave you with such undesirable end results! Here’s a breakdown on my experience, rating everything on a five-star rating scale:
- Off! Lotion (100ml) – 5/5
As you can see from my rating, this was my favourite. Portable and pleasant smelling with no obvious notes of Lemon Grass. If you’re like me and you aren’t a fan of smelling so exotic, opt for this one. Though it’s a lotion, it didn’t leave my skin feeling grimy or sticky. Personally, I like lotions over liquid sprays just cos I feel like I have more control over spreading the product evenly onto my body.
- Off! Liquid (100ml) – 4/5
Like the lotion, this liquid doesn’t have the typical mozzie repellant smell and can probably be classified as a musky fragrance? I don’t really know how to best describe it but trust me, it smells normal. Lol. I received this without a cap so I’m guessing it was lost in the mail cos a spray bottle should always have a cap… But I gave it a four, one point below full marks just cos it’s in liquid form and that doesn’t sit well with me.
- Tiger Balm Mosquito Repellent Spray (60ml) – 2/5
Here’s a quick fact about me. I hate, HATE, the smell of medicated oil. I’m really not into that at all. So unfortunately, this product was a turn off. Whilst I do feel that this spray would be more effective in actually fending off the mozzies (reeks of Lemon Grass + medicated oil so they’d probably die after smelling me), I prefer not to stink up the MRT cabin so… sorry not sorry.
All products are of travel-friendly sizes so I’m pretty sure they’ll be a worthy investment for the long run. They’re readily available in supermarkets and drugstores, I would think. Prevention is always better than cure guys so do make the extra effort to apply some mosquito repellant before leaving the house. I’ve been going to events in the evenings and exploring grassy areas for shoots recently and I’ll admit that I’ve overlooked the dangers of being bitten. But yay to having new Off! lotion to carry along with me everywhere I go now! Don’t forget to take care of yourselves by grabbing one of these too yea?
Till next time,
