[Review] Vichy Normaderm Range

photo 4

I was invited by Vichy Laboratories to try out their No. 1 oil-control moisturizer in Singapore. – the Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care. I first tried out this brand in 2009 and loved it. I still have an entry dated 2011 for a review for their Normaderm range, please check it out HERE.

photo 1So I was given these 2 products to try. The one on the left is the ever so popular, best-selling Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care. It’s a moisturizer that is suitable for Asian sensitive skin. If you have troubled skin and suffer from breakouts often, then you should give this a try. It fights against imperfections, mattifies long-lastingly and hydrates for 24 hours.

photo 2

It has a light texture that is absorbed almost immediately when it is spread across the skin. The fresh scent is a plus point for me, serves as a great perk me up in the mornings. You could also use this in the evening as well. The best I guess was that I didn’t feel a thing on my skin after applying. It is that light! There was no sticky nor heavy after-feel. I think guys would appreciate this moisturizer.

I sleep in an air-conditioned room and I was delighted to see that my skin still looked hydrated in the morning after. So despite it being light-weight and all, the Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care did not compromise on the results it had promised.

photo 3

The other product which I was given was the Normaderm Hyaluspot, a fast acting targeted spot care with hyaluronic acid. Unlike most pimple creams which may be too harsh for sensitive skin, the Vichy Normaderm’s one is specially tailored for sensitive skin. So you need not worry about a bad reaction or excessive drying and peeling.

It has a gel-like texture that is slightly thicker than the Hydrating Care’s, however, it is absorbed quickly by the skin upon application. I hate to say this but I don’t have any pimples to test it on for now. Will update soon though once I manage to review it’s effectiveness.

Meanwhile, check out the whole range available for Vichy Normaderm:

[Review] ETUDE HOUSE Oh My God (Goodness) Trouble Break Mist

I have long suffered from back acne as a teen and have the scars to tell the tale. However, getting pregnant this year has caused a relapse. And I still have a couple of zits to combat now and then after giving birth. Which is why I bought this back acne spray from Etude House. You can find this for S$12.90 at all Etude House outlets.

And this actually works! I now have mostly brownish acne scars left on my back. This spray contains salicylic acid which combats acne. And because it comes in a spray bottle, its easy to use as the back is not exactly easy to reach.

Having tried it out for about 3 days, my back is much better now. So really no harm checking out this product if you are suffering from bacne.

[Review] Combat acne with Tea Tree Oil

No thanks to the pregnancy hormones and increased humidity, my back ache aka bacne took a turn for the worst. The LMS Spotlight was not helping in areas which were difficult to reach and furthermore, I wasn’t utilizing its full capacity. I was using it just once a night instead of hourly as instructed. The back is just not a convenient spot to treat acne effectively with such a tool, especially when you are doing it alone.

Afraid of using chemical-based products such as BP 2.5%  due to its lack of research for usage during pregnancy. I decided to go for something more natural such as Tea tree Oil. And where else to find affordable tea tree oil then at The Body Shop stores.

Going at just S$18.90 for 10ml, this little green bottle of goodness is a skin savior for me. A best-seller at The Body Shop, the Tea Tree Oil is a natural, targeted solution to help clear blemishes quickly and effectively without over-drying the skin. Renowned for its anti-bacterial benefits, the Tea Tree Oil also helps to soothe blemished skin.

Add on the Tea Tree Oil Body Wash which is going for S$18.90 for 250ml, I know I’m doing my best to combat these nasty zits. And things have been looking up for me, the back is almost cleared of active acne, leaving the scores of brownish scars, a solemn reminder of what a disaster it used to be. Even my hubby has noticed the difference too. :)

Special precautions & warnings:

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Tea tree oil seems to be safe when applied to the skin. But it should not be taken by mouth. Ingestion of tea tree oil can be toxic. (source)

Do note that some may not recommend usage of tea tree oil during pregnancy but as long as you take care not to accidentally swallow it then you’re fine. Seriously, who in the right mind consumes tea tree oil!?! Talk to your doctor if you are unsure.

Coping with acne or sensitive skin during pregnancy

Skin changes during pregnancy is very natural and previously, I had blogged about sensitive skin during pregnancy. You can read all about it Here. Along with sensitive skin comes acne problems too.

Skin around my back has gotten blotchy with blackheads and my face is still sensitive. Sometimes after removing my makeup, my skin would appear red and angry. So in order to calm and soothe it, I use my LMS LED Spotlight 24 gadget.

You might be skeptical about using LED lights during pregnancy but it’s perfectly safe if you are using it on your face or any part of your body other than your abdomen. If still in doubt, do always check with your doctor for advise.

Because the LMS Spotlight 24 is the largest gadget among the rest; the 3 & the 8. It has a bigger surface area and hence, is suitable for body parts such as the back. And it can cover each side of the cheek too.

So why am I using it even though I don’t have acne on my face? Because LED lights not only zaps pimples but it also has the following benefits:

  •  Minimizes the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crow`s feet
  • Clears blemishes and minimizes pores
  • Improves the appearance of skin tone and texture
  • Restores skin’s natural collagen production
  • Reduces melanin that causes brown spots
  • Reduces the effects of sun-damaged skin
  • Increases circulation and moisture
  • Reduces skin degradation, redness and flushing
  • Decreases scarring, redness, dry patches, itching and sensitivity caused by eczema
  • Stimulates and activates naturally occurring metabolic function and nutritional elements (Source: http://www.o2planet.com/led/index.html)

And yes, I do wake up to skin looking pumped up and better. As for the blackheads on my back, I’m starting a routine of regular scrubs to exfoliate the dead skin cells and blackheads. I’m currently using the Aqua Rine scrub. Regular scrubbing would help to unclog the congestion around the affected area.

Now, I’m just hoping I won’t get afflicted with melasma.

Getting rid of acne with Differin

Recently, I had quite a number of pimples popping out and it’s probably due to my hormonal changes or they are stress-induced. It could also be a new moisturizer I had switched to. But anyway, pimples are an eyesore and nobody likes them. So in order to get rid of them fast, my friend introduced me to Differin.

Firstly, this product is a prescribed acne treatment cream. You can’t buy it off the shelves, you would need to go see a GP or visit a clinic to get it.

So how do you use it? Just apply a thin layer all over the face, it’s pretty simple just like BP cream. (Check out how BP saved my face from acne CLICK HERE) As Differin thins the skin, it is very important to monitor the amount you’re using.

Some people notice more acne popping out after the first usage. Do not panic as Differin tends to cause purging and this shows that the product is working. It treats your current acne, unclogs pores and prevents new ones from forming.

However, it is so effective that I had only used it for one night. My skin became more sensitive after the trial and the area around my mouth started to flake. This is normal as like BP, Differin can also cause dryness. So you could apply a little bit of moisturizer on the dry areas.

It was essential that I applied sunscreen daily and avoided the sun as my skin was thinner now and hence, more sensitive. I could feel my face turn red easily due to this but it wasn’t much of an issue. I was more focused on how to get rid of the unsightly acne.

Overall, I’m a satisfied user of Differin but if you’re not too desperate. Try the BP 2.5% creams which you can get off the shelves in Guardian. They work great too!

[Review] Joy Pharmacy’s Leader’s Clinic Tea Tree Healing Solution Mask

Of late, I’ve been getting zits and now there’s 6 blemish scars which I’m eagerly anticipating their dismiss. And also, 2 more fresh new zits which are such an eyesore. The culprit could be the hot, humid weather or the bacteria on my fingers and nails. Perhaps, my night skincare regime is too rich for my skin. I had started using a hydrating serum and a moisturizer after that. And despite sleeping in an air-conditioned room, it could still be too oily and clogging my pores. So many possibilities but anyway, I hope to get rid of these unsightly zits now.

So, when I received this package in the mail, it was like an answer to my problems.

Robin Niu’s Beauty Tips [Videos + Summaries] 牛尔老师

Happened to chance upon these videos while I was surfing Asiaone.
Robin Niu (牛尔老师), Taiwanese beauty guru was in town recently to promote KOSE & also host a beauty workshop. I found some of the beauty tips useful and hence, would like to share it on my blog.

For those who don’t understand chinese, I will try my best to summarize each video’s contents. As my chinese is of C6 standard only, do bear with me :)

Robin Niu spends 3 hours on skincare routine

Robin Niu was mistaken as a 26-28 years old overseas when he was actually 41 years old then. How does he manage to look so young still? He claims to spend 2-3 hours on skincare. Seriously, I can’t do that :( Most importantly, use cleanser, moisturizer and sun care.

Pat your lines away

He swipes the pad over her face first to remove the makeup before patting for 200 times. Robin Niu says there’s no ugly women, only lazy women!! (Yes, that’s me – Miss Lazy) Anyway, he explains that patting is essential because it will help skincare products which are applied afterwards to be penetrated deep into the skin and moisture will also be retained to keep the skin hydrated.

Patting can lessen the appearance of lines, wrinkles and uplift your face shape too. OMG! I must try this….

Massage your eyebags away

If you can view the above video, please CLICK HERE

If you use your computer for long hours, the skin below the eyes will become droopy and saggy. As we only have a few muscles around that area, its elasticity will be reduced overtime. Our eyeball presses against the skin as we look down, so eventually eyebags will form. But do not be tempted to do eyebag removal surgery unless the doctor is really qualified to do so, as some patients end up with sunken eyes after that.

The video shows 4 steps on how to massage your eyes. Look up and use your 4th finger to pat gently below the eye area for 200 times. After that, close your lids and pat 50 times. This is called the Piano Finger move.

The next step is called the Scissor Finger movement, as shown in the video. Press down with both fingers seperated and your eye is in the center of the two fingers. Move them towards the side and then press down hard on at the area near your temples and press/massage hard down. There is an acupoint there. Next, push it down to the lymph node around the neck area to flush all water retention over.

The third step is the Acupoint Move, use your middle finger for this. Press your middle finger at the area near the inner corner of the eye and then below the eye, right smack in the middle. Next, move your finger further below the same point, before moving up to the outer corner of the eye. The next acupoint would be the tip of the inner eyebrow, followed by the middle and then the end of your brow.

The last step requires you to rub your palms together 20 times before pressing it against your face. This promotes the stimulation of endorphins.
Seriously, I think Japanese ladies look so good because they spend so much time doing all these to their skin as well.

Robin says that dead skin cells will accumulate and form whiteheads/blackheads if not removed every 2 days. When cleansing your face, pat all over before using the other side of the cotton pad to rub gently off. The deep cleansing oil has a special oil ingredient which is fine enough to penetrate into our pores and loosen our whiteheads/blackheads.

He rubs the deep cleansing oil onto one part of the volunteer’s face. This is now really interesting, he uses what looks like small sheets of shrink wrap to cover the top of the areas where he has rubbed the cleansing oil on. Robin Niu says its his secret tip. This should be done daily for 10mins!!

How it works is that our natural temperature will loosen the whiteheads/blackheads. Hence, when we rinse our face, the whiteheads/blackheads will be removed as well! The remaining more stubborn whiteheads/blackheads can be removed with the famous KOSE mask white. Wow, you can actually see the difference on the volunteer’s face.
