Hello 2015! My Reflections of 2014…

Untitled1a

Looking back, 2014 was a pretty great year for me, I have so much to be thankful for. We may not be super loaded but at least money was never an issue. We have a roof over our head, food on our plates and every necessity that is required for us to enjoy a decent quality of life.

10 Things To Do To Take Charge Of Your Life, Body & Heart

#1 If You Hate Your Yob, QUIT!

Most of us are caught up in the rat race which we call Life. So much so that, at times, I find it all too meaningless. There is this endless pursuit for success, fame and fortune. Because we think with all that, naturally, happiness would follow suit. Wouldn’t it? I used to think of it this way till I realized that while yes, more money could buy me a car (because you just can’t trust the public transport system nowadays) and the KG by Kurt Geiger shoes I’ve been eyeing.

But I wasn’t going to be happy if it meant slogging away, wasting my precious time working for stupid people (and/or a corporation) just so I could afford those things which are ironically supposed to make me happy. So you wanna take charge of your life? Then you should redefine your idea of happiness. If you are that unhappy in your job then quit before it is too late.

#2 Give Yourself A Break

Life is short, there is no need to be so hard on yourself. I’m not saying stop work and spend your entire life savings on a 1 way air ticket to Bora Bora Islands and stay there forever. (Actually, yes, that is what I secretly wish I could do) But I’m saying, amidst all these madness, just stop and take a breather. Go on a holiday alone if you need to “find yourself”. You will be surprised at what you discover.

#3 Take Up A New Hobby That is Healthy

Sign up for hot yoga, zumba or perhaps get a gym membership. Studies have shown that exercise is not only good for the body but also the brain. According to PostitScienceExercise affects the brain on multiple fronts. It increases heart rate, which pumps more oxygen to the brain. It also aids the bodily release of a plethora of hormones, all of which participate in aiding and providing a nourishing environment for the growth of brain cell. Now, it is time to get those training sneakers out..

#4 Get A Makeover

Change something about yourself that you had always wanted to do but never really had the guts to do so. Get fluttery eyelash extensions if you have always wanted to look like a doll. Cut your waist length hair into a pixie do! Or maybe you had always wanted to get a tattoo. YOLO – You only live once. Of course, this must be something you had always wanted to do. Not something crazy, stupid to be done on an impulse. Then again, if it is really just a tattoo gone wrong, at least, nowadays technology in tattoo removal are so advanced, you can heave a sigh of relief there.

#5 Go Out & Meet New People

It is strange that how as we start to age, the number of friends we have start to dwindle somehow. Everyone is either too busy with their jobs, families, kids or everything else. If you find that your friend list is blank then it is time to make new ones. Websites such as Meetup.com allows folks of similar interests, backgrounds to organize meetings and make new friends while at it. Sunday brunch for pet lovers? Sign me up!

#6 Stop Dating Jerks

Too many times have we heard women crying over jerks and then swearing never to go back to these horrible men only to find them dating someone exactly like their exs the very next month. What is their problem? You see, bad boys attract women, that is why good guys finish last or sometimes never at all.

The reason of your heartache all these years is because you have been looking in the wrong places for love. Stop dating the jerks and friend-zoning the good guys. Give them a chance, you never know where that might lead to.

#7 Manage Your Finances Well

Yes, YOLO, I hear you but that is no excuse to indulging in an expensive purchase which you obviously can’t afford. There has been a shocking finding that more and more young folks under 30 are getting themselves into credit card debt. The credit card is like that magic goose which lays golden eggs whenever you run out of them. You have to pay your bills on time or else you run into debt and end up paying high interests while ruining your credit report.

This is a no brainer, just don’t spend more than you earn. Simple as that. If you are eyeing something then save up for it. There is no easy way out in this one unless you are so lucky to win the toto with a $1 ticket. (And no, I am not asking you to squander away your hard earned salary weekly on lottery.)

#8 Do Something Nice For A Stranger

Not just clicking DONATE on a charity website but go out there and take action. Sign up for a mission trip. Go abroad and help build a school. Or if you are less adventurous. Try something else on home ground like sharing an umbrella with a stranger. Help a granny with her heavy groceries. When you bring a smile to their faces, you will feel good about yourself too.

#9 Make Time For Friends & Family

Don’t get too caught up with the hustle and buzz of your work/studies. Save a friday night for a get-together with the girlfriends and have a girly sleepover together. Do a makeover for each other, who knows you better than your close girl pals, right? Swap new beauty tips, try out new makeup from each other’s cosmetic purses and basically, just have fun.

Call your parents, grandparents and arrange for dinner sometime soon. Don’t wait till it is too late to spend quality time with people whom matter.

#10 Love Yourself

There is nothing more important in taking charge of your life then being able to give yourself the love and respect you deserve. Never settle for anything less, always be good to yourself. Treat yourself with the love and respect you expect from others. As cliche as it sounds but seriously, how can you expect someone to love you if you don’t love yourself. Be at peace with yourself and take charge of your life.

2 years in a glance

Just something I did while waiting for my postnatal masseur to arrive the other day. A little summary of my life in the past 2 years. Time seems to fly by in a blink of an eye…

2010 Dec – I got married

2011 Feb – We had our honeymoon in beautiful Maldives

2012 Feb – The pregnancy test kit showed a + sign

2012 Oct – We welcome our little one to the world

It has been a crazy year so far, with me abstaining from so many things due to the pregnancy. But I’ve made it through and I thank my lucky stars for everyone who had supported me through this period.

XOXO
