Fry Pan Shokudo at Isetan Scotts Food Republic

 

Katsu lovers can look forward to a taste-bud-tickling meal with the introduction of an authentic Japanese eatery serving katsu-concepts at digestible price tags. Located within Japan Foods Garden, Fry Pan Shokudo (Fry Pan “canteen”) is the latest eatery to join the enclave of Japanese food options tucked away in a corner of Isetan Scotts Food Republic. Wholly-owned by La Ditta Limited and helmed by successful restauranteur Mr. Taka Daiya, the concept will reignite the thirst for katsu all over again.

Synonymous with its name, Fry Pan Shokudo serves Western-inspired traditional Japanese cutlets on a miniature black ceramic-coated frying pan. The menu features varying katsu-options, with a choice to pair a flaky panko-crusted chicken or pork cutlet, topped with your choice of sauces. Conceptualised by Mr. Taka Daiya who formerly ran a restaurant in Los Angeles frequented by professional tennis player Maria Sharapova, as well as guitarist and singer-songwriter Eric Clapton, the menu retains its authenticity as it would typically be served at canteens in Japan.

Food Tasting @ Sakae Sushi

When you mention Sakae Sushi, it brings back memories of my schooling days where hanging out at the restaurant for their popular tea-time buffet was a weekly affair. Inspired by flavours around the world, Sakae Sushi has revamped their menu with a local twist, where diners can expect over 120 new tantalising selections.

So I got invited to a food tasting at the Orchard Gateway branch and was pretty surprised by some of the dishes. Let’s start with the appetizers.

[Food Review] Coocci Contemporary Japanese

Ok so I hardly do food reviews because I am always chomping down before I manage to snap a decent photo. And what is a food review without photos, right?
However, you are in luck now, because I was treated to such a visual feast at a hawker centre, yes, you read me right, such artist food display served up at a hawker. I mean, how could I resist not taking a photo?

This was my lunch (S$6.00) for last friday at a hawker centre. Commonwealth Crescent Food Centre to be exact. It’s located near my office and what a hidden gem this is. The chef obviously used to work in some Japanese restaurant.

Not only was the food visually-appealing, it was delicious. So much so, I know I would be returning to try out the other dishes. I couldn’t recall the name of my set lunch but I know it was tagged #3 and a Chef’s Recommendation. There is the #6 Smoked Chicken which is also a Chef’s Recommendation that’s going at S$7.50. It’s one of the hot favorites which most of the office folks order too. But if you are not someone whose tastebuds sit well with smoky aftertaste then give it a miss. But try out the other dishes, like perhaps my fried chicken set.

There’s often a long queue for this stall so it pays to be early. My colleague who recommended it told us that it opens from 12noon and closes at 3pm before it re-opens for dinner at 6pm.

It’s the 3rd stall to your right when you come up from the escalator with the first stall being a Yong Tau Fu stall. It has these dark binds which you definitely won’t miss out. I’ve been hearing some raves on the udon, would be back to try it soon again. And if I’m not too busy chowing down my food, I guess I would snap a photo and perhaps give another review 😉

I rate my lunch at 5/5! What an amazing meal, worth every single cent $$$. Needless to say, I cleaned up everything on the plate and bowls. :X
