I was first introduced to crystals by a friend and yes, I have seen them around shops. I recall that my dad has an amethyst geode at home. From my limited knowledge of crystals, I used to think of crystal usage in primarily Feng Shui functions. Feng Shui is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. Likewise, many New Age practitioners also use crystals for similar functions as Feng Shui practitioners.
There are two types of crystal collectors, the ones that keep them for their beauty and use them as decorative purposes. And there are the ones who believe that crystals have healing properties and use them in their various mediation or healing processes.
Crystals are thought to possess different levels of energy and have a vibration which can be measured, and according to the level of the vibration can be effective healers of individual chakras. The Sanskrit word Chakra literally Translate to wheel or disk. It is believed that the human body has seven centres of spiritual power,of which these are referred to as the chakra. I could go on more about this but let’s keep things simple and talk about my crystals first.
Crystal healing is an ancient art that dates back many years and I understand that there are studies claiming crystal healing to be pseudoscience. Some believe that it is just a placebo effect that people who had positive encounters with crystal healing. Personally, I would suggest going with your intuition. If you think that crystals are just a bunch of hogwash then it would remain what it is and never work for you. But if you have an open mind when it comes to crystals, then you might be surprised at what you would discover and experience.
After my first impromptu purchase, I started reading up more on them and was fascinated by what I have learnt. Firstly, there are so many types of crystals and the forms that they come in. And each crystal had their own special healing properties and meaning. Each crystal shopping trip is exciting and unpredictable because you shop with your intuition, picking only the stones which draws you to it. It is believed that crystals pick us and not the other way around, you might pick a crystal without knowing its properties only to find them out later and that the stone properties are a perfect fit for your present moment.
During my first visit, I was drawn to the amazonite tumbled stone.
Amazonite assists in communicating one’s true thoughts and feelings without over-emotionalism. It also enables one to see a problem from another’s point of view in order to affect peace, or to see both sides of an issue objectively to resolve one’s own inner conflicts. Sleeping with an Amazonite can bring these components into focus through the symbolism of dreams.
In short, the amazonite is a peaceful stone and it always had a calming effect on me. Placebo effect or not, I felt that as long as I was reaping the benefits then why not?
The next stones which I was drawn to were these fluorite polished spheres. I had picked the clear one first and only bought the yellow one because I learnt that it was a stone that attracted wealth too. And who could resist a prosperity stone?
Clear fluorite is a mental clarity stone, stimulating to the Crown Chakra. It cleanses and energizes the aura, harmonizing the mind and spirit. This crystal allows for a shift in perspective so one may recognize the difference between struggle and the need to perpetuate it. It helps alleviate emotional turmoil, feelings of guilt or shame, and pressure from others. Clear Fluorite enhances the energies of other stones and is excellent for crystal healing layouts, and may be used to align all of the chakras, bringing universal energy into the physical body.
Remember my blog post on A Shift In Perspective? For me, clear fluorite is a great stone for the clarity of the mind.
Yellow fluorite also called Golden Fluorite, is a crystal of unity, intellect and creativity. It increases understanding, logic and intellectual ability, while boosting one’s imagination and resourcefulness. Stimulating the Solar Plexus Chakra, this mineral aligns the will with the mind, ensuring one can bring one’s ideas and goals into reality through action and intent. Yellow Fluorite is also beneficial for stabilizing group energy, bringing a cooperative spirit and the willingness to work together for a common good. It promotes a positive outlook on life and demonstrates the connective structure of love among and between all that exists.
Apart from being a money drawing stone, yellow fluorite increase creativity and works as a mental boost. There is a whole lot of information on the different colours of fluorites and if you are interested, you can read more over here.
The last stone I purchased was a raw rainbow moonstone which I had to specifically ask for because I could not find it on display at the store.
I remember coming across the moonstone during a RISIS workshop and that it was a protective stone which is why it is known as the traveler’s stone as well. Little did I know that moonstone was an emotional healing stone as well.
Moonstone has long been known for its calming, soothing qualities on the emotional body. Its energy is balancing and healing, assisting in the mastery of emotions by bringing them under the control of Higher Will, rather than expressing or repressing them. It also helps identify emotional patterns that are stored in the subconscious, and serves as a guardian to contain explosive passions, and to stimulate confidence and composure.
Moonstone bestows a depth of feeling, a gentleness within the self that brings happiness to the environment in which it resides. Associated with the feminine, it enhances the intuitive side of the mind.
I thought it was interesting how I kept picking these soothing and calming stones because at that point of time, this was what I really needed in my life. I was still stuck in that toxic place with toxic people. And I really needed all the peace, harmony and mental clarity to avoid sinking even further.
Months later, I expanded my little collection with a few more crystals. These are raw rose quartz. They represent unconditional love.
Rose Quartz is the healer for these internal wounds, erasing the primal imprints and reprogramming the heart to accept the infinite source of love that comes from within the self. Only after learning to give love to the self is it possible to truly love others.
Only after purchasing did I learn that rose quartz was all about self love as well. Only when we truly learn to love ourselves can we give our love freely to others who are deserving of this love. I had mentioned previously that this year would be one of emotional healing, reconciliation and learning to love myself all over again after removing all the self-doubt. The rose quartz would be a lovely support stone to work with on these issues.
Next, we have this citrine polished pointed stone. I bought it mainly because it was a stone for manifesting abundance. Little did I know that it was such an amazing stone after reading more about it online.
Natural Citrine does not hold or accumulate negative energy, but rather transmutes, dissipates, and grounds it, making it extremely protective for the environment. It works out problems on both the physical and subtle levels, transforming negative thoughts and feelings into positive ones. It is one of only two crystals on Earth that never needs to be cleared or cleansed.
Called The Merchant’s Stone for its properties of increase in the cashbox, sparkling yellow Citrine not only assists in acquiring wealth, but helps in maintaining it. It is a stone of abundance and manifestation, attracting wealth and prosperity, success and all things good. It also encourages generosity and sharing good fortune. Citrine assists in all fast money ventures, and is especially helpful in financial speculation and for commercial success. Carry one in the purse or wallet to attract money and stop excessive outflow.
Citrine opens the higher mind to accept joy in one’s life, releasing anger and negative feelings, deep-seated fears and destructive tendencies. An excellent crystal for overcoming depression, Citrine reduces the sensitivity to criticism and inspires creativity and self-expression. It raises self-esteem, and by letting go of the past, allows one to move forward optimistically, enjoying new experiences and explorations.
Now this is really amazing, another stone to help with the healing process of releasing all the hatred and anger. I must admit that I still harbor some negative feelings towards a certain asshole.
While citrine is known as an abundance stone, of course, I am not expecting a windfall just because I have it in possession. We can use crystals to aid us in our daily lives but do not expect to become happy, successful or whatever goals you have in mind by just sitting around doing nothing just because you have a bunch of crystals. Crystals do not do the dirty work for you but assist in a way and that is if you do actually believe in the powers of crystals.
Last but not least, this is a beautiful fluorite wand. A wand is good for meditations, grids and energy sessions. However, I bought it mainly because it looks so pretty and I might want to try it out with a grid soon but I will need to do more reading on it.
And before you dismiss all these crystals stuff as hoodoo voodoo stuff, I would have to say that you have to give it a try before concluding. But then again, if you do not try it with an open mind and heart then it would most likely not work for you.
