I had been planning for his 2nd birthday even though it was not going to be a big affair like his first. And in a blink of an eye, it came and passed. Oh boy, how time flies! Just imagine 2 years ago, he was just a tiny wee little baby and now he is a grown up toddler with his own opinions.
We celebrated in advance on a weekend with family and close friends at our humble home. Since Go Diego Go was his favorite character of the moment, I made it the theme for his party.
And since party decor were often just used once and discarded, I decided not to splurge on licensed Go Diego Go ones and got generic ones from Daiso. By a stroke of luck, I found Go Diego Go printable available online via the Nickelodeon website. And there you have, our very own customized Go Diego Go decoration. The licensed cake was from Prima Deli, it was 3kg, way too much for the 27 pax party we had.
I loved the balloon bouquet but sadly, it didn’t survive the 2nd night…
I’m not really sure what had happened to it. Did it explode? Or was Mocha the culprit? There tears around the neck area of the super sized Diego figurine balloon. What a waste! Asher’s birthday wasn’t even over yet. So I taped it on to our wall so that he could at least have a decent photo with it as memory.
And yes, that is his birthday present! A Kidkraft Uptown Espresso Kitchen set which took me 5 freaking hours to put together from scrap. All the screwing ruined my nails and I had blistered palms at the end of the day. But it was all worth it, he loves and I love it too! We are getting accessories from Melissa & Doug to go with the kitchen. So far, I’ve only added some fake tin canned food and a kettle from ELC’s sale. 40% + 10% off was a real bargain! We happened to go on the last day and there weren’t much left. I guess I would need to wait till next year for such a sale again.
These were the goodie bags I had prepared for his classmates on the actual day of his birthday. I had prepared 12 bags for the kids but only 4 turned up for playgroup. Thank goodness I didn’t splurge on customized cupcakes. Given that the whole family had too much cake over the weekend and imagine if we had to finish 20 leftover cupcakes ourselves!?
And in case you are wondering, those are mini board books for the kids. As usual, I’m trying to be a reading advocate here. I think books in place of snacks are a great idea. Most of the snacks we had received previously in his goodie bags had to be confiscated because they were not suitable for toddlers.
We celebrated with a birthday dim sum lunch before heading over to this awesome balloon sculpture display. He loves balloons and was so excited by all the different sea creatures displays. However, it was so difficult to get him to pose for a photo.
Last but not least, we ended the night with a mini birthday cake (as we were all sick of cake but a birthday on the actual day is a tradition we must follow)!
Happy Birthday, my sweet little fellow! Mummy loves you so very much 😀
