This is not an actual shopping mall but a set display built specially for the Chanel Fall/Winter 2014/15 Ready-to-Wear Show. This is by far, in my personal opinion, Karl Lagerfeld’s best set ever. It beats everything else he has done hands down and that includes the ice bergs, giant jacket and jet sets.
As some of you may recall, two years ago, Lagerfeld had a jet reconstructed for the semi annual Chanel Haute Couture runway show in Paris. No stranger to elaborate set displays, Karl has clearly outdone himself this round.

Guests to the show were in for a treat when they got to browse through the aisles, complete with Chanel branded products such as breakfast cereal labelled as Coco Choco and more. Before models posing as shoppers marched into the scene in what appears as a perfectly choreographed performance. Fashion has became theatre in this Chanel show.
Unfortunately, some fans are not seeing eye to eye with Karl on this one. Unlike previous sets which were usually glamorously done up. The supermarket setting somehow reminded most folks of Wal-mart, an American chain of large discount department stores and warehouse stores, most notoriously known for the strange shoppers it unintentionally attracts. (Yes, they even have a website dedicated to such folks of Wal-mart, visit http://www.peopleofwalmart.com). Some Chanel fans have remarked that couture and supermarkets do not go together, labeling this display as silly and adolescent.

Personally, I thought it was a fun and playful set that was clearly very creative of Karl. In fact, I would love to just go on set and take a dozen selfies in there.
