[Review + July Launch] Shu Uemura Ultime8 Cleansing Oil

Heads up to all Shu Uemura cleansing oil fans, there will be a new product launching in July 2012.

Presenting the Shu Uemura Ultime8 sublime beauty cleansing oil which contains 8 botanical origin oils with 8 skincare benefits.

10 years ago, Mr Shu Uemura had dreamed of creating a cleansing oil that had a luxurious touch, a sense of bliss and a texture like cashmere. A powerful yet gentle cleansing with higher skincare benefits in a single step. Now, this is a reality with the Ultime8 after extensive research and numerous experiments.

I’ve just started becoming a cleansing oil fan of late only and I remember makeup artist Clarence Lee did mention before that cleansing oils clean off makeup thoroughly. It’s recommended to use cleansing oil for makeup removal and I couldn’t agree more.

Just what is so special about the Ultime8?

It’s very special list of 8 botanical ingredients –

Camellia oil for nourishing; the camelllia oil contains oleic acids, Omega 3,6 and 9 as well as Sasanquasaponin which is known for its anti-oxidant properties. The camillia oil offers the skin protection.

Safflower oil is rich in linoleic acid, it is an essential fatty acid for the epidermis and it reduces oxidative stress. The safflower oil protects the skin by promoting the skin barrier.

Soy extract supports the blood circulation and protects the skin from oxidation.

Corn oil contains a variety of fatty acids such as Omega 3,6, and 9 which form an ultra oil layer on the skin surface to protect it from dryness.

Jojoba oil promotes skin renewal as it contains Omega3 and activates collagen synthesis. It aids moisture and skin suppleness.

Olive oil has great anti-oxidant efects and keeps the skin soft and moisturized.

Ginger root prevents skin damage and reduces melanin production as well as wrinkle formation.

Shea Butter is known for its triglycerides and fatty acids Omega 6 & 9, it provides protection from photo damage and external stress.

My trial

The texture is fine and light, I love the scent. It smells like essential oil and can be used for massage. They demostrated it during the media launch with a hand massage.

This is my hand with long-lasting eyeliner and lipstick, the kind that can stain your skin.

After 1 sweep using cotton pad:

To be fair, the eyeliner is really stubbon but after a few massages with the cotton pad. It is removed! You can use this cleansing oil on waterproof eye makeup like mascara and also on the lips too.

This photo shows my hand prior to washing off with water. After rinsing off the excess cleaning oil with water, my skin feels silky smooth and soft. As the Ultime8 has moisturizing properties help keep skin stay moist even after washing off. Amazing, yeah?

Also, it removed the sticky residue from my eyelash adhesive much more faster than my regular oil cleanser. So yes, this is the reason why Shu Uemura cleansing oils do not come cheap. You are paying for the quality it delivers.
