Pigmentation Treatment with Pico Laser at Clifford Aesthetics!

If you’re one of those who find freckles really cute, think again. If you’ve been a religious reader of my blog, you’d know that I’m constantly talking about lasers and finding ways to reduce or lighten pigmentation. I believe it is a strong Asian trend to want to achieve clear, smooth, radiant skin and this is definitely not possible with large brown spots on your face! In this article, I’d talk about how the Picocare 450 laser can help you reach your dream skin.

Yes, freckles like all other skin pigmentation can spread and grow.  Skin pigmentation happens when the skin produces an excessive amount of melanin. Melanin is created as a protection on skin cells to shield the skin from sun and UV-rays. Age spots, sun spots, spots and melasma can show up on the face, hands and arms if skin is not properly taken care of.

UV-damage is the biggest culprit of pigmentation. The UVA and UVB beams are the key reason for untimely maturing of the skin and can cause hyperpigmentation as well as sun spots. The degree of UV damage depends on a person’s skin shading and the extent of the sun exposure. Sunscreen is therefore super important and a must-do before leaving the home, especially when Singapore is bright and sunny all year round!

For those who already have unwanted pigmentation that you’d like to treat, I’d like to introduce you to the Picocare 450 Laser Treatment at Clifford Aesthetics.

The Picocare 450 laser has many uses. It is now most commonly used for Pigmentation Removal, Tattoo Removal, Pores, Fine Lines, Wrinkles and Acne scars. Melesma which is an extremely common form of pigmentation can now finally be removed and controlled with this Pico Laser treatment. The Pico laser is able to break up the pigments in your skin more effectively, lightening the affected area in the process. Picocare 450 laser with HEXA MLA handpiece can also help to lift depressed acne scars and help to minimise enlarged pores on and around nose area.

What is the difference between Picocare 450 laser and normal laser?

As I have tried other lasers before, I thought it was important to share the difference between the Picocare 450 laser and other types of normal skin lasers.

(Lasers use a solitary wavelength to deliver the vitality to skin targets. Picocare 450 lasers can distribute energy in prodigiously short bursts (within several billionths of a second). The speedier the laser is, the more proficient it is. A quick laser has a shorter span between laser beats, which means it gives more laser beats each second. The shorter burst of energy circulated by the laser disrupts the pigment-containing cells within the skin, resulting in fading and clearing of the affected area. The energy conveyed by the Pico laser can also rebuild skin collagen and improve its surface.)

If you found this hard to understand and very cheem, basically it just means that the Picocare 450 laser is able to give quicker bursts, with more laser beats per second; thereby helping to break down and clear out pigment-containing cells, making it more effective than other lasers. In the process, you also get an extra bonus: your skin collagen is rebuilt and skin surface is improved!

HOW DOES THE PICOCARE 450 LASER WORK?

As mentioned, the Picocare laser can perform many different functions. It is able to get rid of pigmentation and help reduce acne scars, rough textures and pores at the same time. Scars are removed using the Picocare laser through the use of very fine laser beams that penetrate below the skin causing tiny bubbles to form using micro-explosions.

The lasers can penetrate far beneath the surface of the skin to dissipate the melanin that causes hyper pigmentation. The laser separates dull spots into smaller particles which are beneath the skin. Gradually, darker spots and dull spots on the face, neck, chest, hands, arms and legs will fade away.
The bubbles formed when laser is performed will fill up with collagen during the recovery and an “elevated” effect will help to raise depressed scars from acne.

In conventional subcision techniques used to treat acne scars, the doctor would insert a needle below scars to manually raise it up. However, the Pico Laser has a Bubble Lift technology that replaces these old approaches completely, causing less discomfort and minimal injury, while achieving the same (if not better) effects.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS OF PICOCARE 450 LASER?

Picocare 450 laser is a comfortable and painless procedure with the use of topical numbing cream. During the process, it is normal to feel a slight stinging sensation but no pain no gain yeah? You may also notice that the treated area will turn red for a few hours after the treatment but will definitely go away in one day.

Lesser side effects are seen after Picocare 450 laser, compared to other laser treatments. Patients normally experience minimal downtime after treatment. This treatment also requires lesser sessions, making it a faster and efficient choice for laser treatment.

Personal Review

To be frank, the results I have achieved thus far is a combined result of 4 sessions of the Q-Switch Laser and 2 sessions of the Picocare 450 laser. Therefore, it is not realistic to expect all your pigmentation to go away in just one session. Depending on your condition, Dr Gerard Ee will be able to advise the number of sessions you need to go through before you can achieve your desired skin. Even after these 6 sessions, I am still continuing on my journey to get pigmentation-free skin!

Rest assured that pain is minimal, you don’t even need numbing cream. Or at least, I never did apply numbing cream for my sessions. However, if you are super afraid of pain, you may request for it.

Hydrafacial & Q-Switch Laser Treatment at Clifford Aesthetics

Disappointed with the results of your regular facial parlour?

Although more expensive, facial treatments at aesthetic clinics such as The Clifford Aesthetics use high tech machines and high quality products to pamper your skin!

My first time doing a facial at an aesthetic clinic, I tried out The Clifford Aesthetic’s Hydrafacial. This was coupled with the Q-Switch Laser treatment which helps to target pimples, pigmentation and pores without any downtime!

Let’s go into the Hydrafacial first!

The Hydrafacial is perfect for you if your skin has the following isuses:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Poor skin tone
  • Loss of elasticity and firmness
  • Hyperpgimentatation
  • Oil and congestion
  • Advanced signs of aging

Clifford

The Hydrafacial integrates cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration simultaneously, cleaning and revitalizing your skin thoroughly.

There are 5 main steps for this facial:

  1. Cleansing and Exfoliation to remove dead skin cells
  2. Acid Peel: To loosen dirt and soften black and white heads
  3. Extraction using vortex suction
  4. Hydration: Antioxidants and Hyaluronic are Vortex-Fused to nourish and protect your skin + Application of Anti-wrinkle to lower eye
  5. Protection: HydraFacial daily essentials will be used to protect your skin and maintain results

Clifford

The therapist uses this nozzle to apply the products onto your face and you basically just experience a light suction feeling on your skin.

Say bye to painful squeezing of pimples and black heads! Those usually also leave marks and have downtime for up to 2 days. With the Hydrafacial, there’s no redness and downtime at all!

The treatment takes only 30 minutes so its a perfect lunch time treatment. Pop into the clinic and be out showing your colleagues your new smooth skin.

Q switch

(Machine used for Q-Switch laser)

If you have stubborn pigmentation that requires more attention, couple the Hydrafacial with the Q-Switch Laser.

Q-switch laser is the ideal lunchtime laser for common pigmentation and aging problems.  Melasma, freckles and acne scars are common types of hyperpigmentation that can occur even with good lifestyle and skincare habits. I know many people tend to think freckles look cute. However, they can grow into large brown spots as you age!

The Q-switch laser has been proven to erase hyper-pigmentation with low downtime.

How does Q-switched laser treatment work?

The Q-Switch Laser treatment works by generating a high-energy laser on the affected area. The laser energy pulse breaks down the pigments into mini-pigments, which is absorbed by the skin, and then destroyed by the body’s lymphatic system.

How many treatments are needed?

This is a common question as many of you are concerned about the cost required and time needed to see results.

The answer to this question depends on the type of pigmentation you have. Some pigments can be effectively removed in one or two sessions, whereas some pigments may need several repeated sessions of the laser. A single treatment can result in the removal of 75-100% of an individual brown spot. The friendly doctor Gerard Ee will advise you on how many sessions you will require to achieve your desired skin.

Some added bonuses of the treatment is the reduction of damage caused by harmful sun exposure, and the increased collagen and elastin levels which maintain both elasticity and firmness in your skin.

Is it safe?

The Q-Switch Laser treatment is FDA approved and clinically proven for the removal of both superficial and deep hyperpigmented lesions. The procedure is 100% safe and comes without side effects.

Is it painful?

You will be surprised how comfortable the 15-minute laser procedure actually is, with it being comparable to a rubber band snapping on your skin. You basically feel a zapping sensation, but nothing you can’t bear. However, you can request using a numbing cream if you really very scared of pain.

(P.s I was strong so I didn’t use any numbing cream. hahhahahha)

Is there any down time?

There is almost no downtime for Q switch laser and you can expect to return to your daily activities and work without interruptions.
Erythema (skin redness) is expected after Q switch laser and this usually fades in a maximum of 1 hour. You can choose to apply makeup after laser
Urticaria (hives) can occur occasionally and this can be reversed with medications.

Clifford

So this is me face immediately after the Q-Switch. As you can tell, there are some red marks on my face.

The pigmented area on my skin was destroyed by the Q-switch laser which results in the area turning red. A scab (a dry, rough protective crust that forms over a cut or wound during healing) will form and fall off in a few days.

Mark

This is me face again on the next day, aka D+1.

Day 5

5 days later…
