Eyelash perming + Permanent mascara for small eyes

beauty recipe

Just sometime back – I tried for the very first time eyelash perming (lash lift) and semi permanent mascara and here are the results. I think it made my eyes look much better indeed, I did prefer the lash perm and personally didn’t mind apply mascara myself so I would probably skip the semi-permanent mascara in future so it did feel a little stiff on my eye lash hehehe. It did last well for about 4-6weeks in my experience.

If that’s something you’ll like to try you can give it a shot for cheap to try the lash lift using my link so we get a 1-for-1 lash lift.https://www.advocado.me/#/refer-invite/f00312b4-e86a-4f87-b39f-463b48684d88

Planning your own wedding like I did mine.

Back in Oct 2016, I got married to my boyfriend of 7 years. Our wedding of about 150 guests took us a year to plan  in between juggling work and our new home renovation etc. It was to say the least one of the toughest times we had but I am glad it is done and dusted.

I had read about people getting into debts over their wedding banquets, as well as home renovations. Hence i guess if one doesn’t have the luxury of dating for a long long time before deciding to get hitch then yes I guess it would be very challenging financially.

Here are some tips which I hope will help couples that are soon to wed. These are my wedding hits and misses – my honest take on it which I hope benefits you when it comes to your own planning. Here’s how we survived.

First things first:CHR_1825-Edit

Talk about your budget and ideal venue, bounce your ideas with each other at least a year ahead. I think 12-18 months is good time. Work out a list of the essentials [food], and items which are considered luxury which you can evaluate along the way [example between getting a rented gown or a made to measure one etc, or things like a wedding band etc].

For us, we agreed to keep it small, to just close friends and a small bunch of relatives. I would say we were lucky our parents gave us alot of leeway and didn’t impose their guestlists on us. We had also agreed that it was our wedding, and we were paying for it ourselves hence we will call the shots. lol [Yesyes no demanding parents or in laws were going to change my mind oops]

A typical banquet would cost about $150 a head but there are always cheaper options such as buffet style weddings, or even a cozy one at a cafe/ restaurant which is quite fast becoming the norm here as weddings get more intimate and personal. Bear in mind that friends who have diet preferences / of requirements – might incur you some extra cost :)

Since I was someone who loved the whole old British colonial thing so I set my sights on either the Raffles Hotel / Intercontinental Hotel’ / Fullerton Hotel. From the start the Intercon had a minimum of 25 or was it 30 tables which was beyond what I wanted.

The Straits Room at fullerton was lovely but too cramp , and Raffles hotel wasn’t accepting bookings as they were due to renovate so just when i thought I’ll just do without a dinner, I had met with a Mother in Law who really wanted us to have 1 , I guess him being the eldest son, so I obliged much to the protest of my pocket lololl.

I started looking at smaller venues and chanced upon The Halia @ Raffles [that is now no longer there since the hotel is renovating], we then attended the wedding show and decided there and then on a whim that we liked it so we signed up with them. On hindsight – it was probably a better decision to work out all the nitty gritty and questions you have on things like your guests list and perhaps on whether kids chairs will be charged for etc before jumping into it like I did – then by my own fault only to realize I would sit only 100 guests inside and the rest have to be outside lol [without aircon] Sorry my 50 noble friends who endured the heat hehehe.

Actually I had written to Halia prior to the wedding show and making a booking to ask for things like corkage waive and etc but they weren’t so flexible on those things so we had to then forgo our plan of bringing our own moscato for our guests . Which was actually no issue as there was already lots of pick from since we had our Monkey Shoulder whisky bar, Ginger Beer , Tiger beer , Ice Tea and etc for guests.  lol

Here was the beautiful bar that I didn’t have a chance to par-take in not again ahahaha. CHR_2509

I designed that signage for the bar myself :)

And here’s some of the amazing food….that I didn’t get to eat.  Wished there was an option to ‘dabao’ lol. Well prior to the dinner I had ordered room service so I had some food at least ! CHR_2569 CHR_2571

I thank Jo and Riduan of Halia lots as they were both professional and really efficient. With prompt replies and great hospitality, Jo took on my seating plan changes with great skill and had not charged for the kids chairs I needed on the day of my banquet. Those were pleasant surprises despite the waiver of corkcage issues etc.

I had also opted out our their wedding cards because Mas from Creativekad did those for me and Jo ever so kindly converted the value of those cards into parking coupons for me. so very kind! <3

Mas did the invites, the wedding signages, the stickers for my wedding favors .

And Halia quite kindly provided me with the easel stands.CHR_2584

Not wanting to blow an extra $700 on a photobooth I had my own staff come to help with my photobooth using my own equipment? lol

My fellow MFP blogger Jean goes into very good details on what to look out for in your wedding venue and package which you can read here http://jeangan.com/wedding-101-how-to-choose-the-right-hotel-venue/ so I do not have a to repeat.
I’ll just share my experience here:

Pros about a hotel banquet
-Often includes the wedding favor
-The wedding cake
-Lots of parking space of guests
-Has basic AV system
-Includes hotel room
-Some throw in perks such as extra rooms for the entourage or even photobooth services etc / dessert table

Cons about a hotel banquet
-There’s typically a min or 25 tables which means easily $1500 x 25  = $37500 ? which is alot.
-Food is typically boring and standardized.

Pros about an independent venue: like halia
-More room to customize.
-Great food
We picked the communal dinner which had our friends sharing of platters to kind of break the ice. Some items such as the soup were still individually served.
-No price difference between dinner and lunch banquets at Halia back in 2016 at least hence we opted for dinner as it gave a more romantic feel.

Cons :
-Challenges about our venue as Halia is just a tenant of Raffles Hotel so the hotel perks don’t apply
-we forked out extras for parking tickets, for the wedding favors, hotel room and sound system and cake etc.
– There was no tasting session for you and your parents/inlaws etc. Or rather you would have to pay for it.
-Signages not provided unlike at most hotels. [tho nothing i couldn’t solve with the amazing Mas from Creativekad -[my wedding stationery designer]

It’s also very important you have chemistry with the wedding coordinator as you want someone you can trust and is responsive and gives good input/suggestions.

Wedding favours and customization

Since my banquet did not include wedding favors -it meant i could then buy wedding favors that I approved off – you know. Enough of salt pepper shakers or things like bottle corks. SO I  picked rose bud tea and purchased them in bulk and then stuck on personalized stickers that the Lovely Mas from Creativekad designed for me <3 https://www.facebook.com/creativekadbymas

Tho I burnt a lil hole in my pocket to get the favors I must say oh and the logistics… lol

I also bought these laser cut butterflies and birds online and had them placed on each of the wine glasses as a scene setter.

Wedding Cake

I ordered a 2 tier cake from Cupplets that I didn’t even get to taste lloloolol . But of course I had tasted it before ordering it and frankly in my own opinion it looked nicer than it tasted. The cake cost $320 and I had to pay extra for delivery ..

I also ordered some macaroons from https://www.mydessertcup.com/ which my bridesmaid conveniently helped to collect at raffles city before the wedding. CHR_2461CHR_2557

On cakes: I guess one could always do with a cheaper one! Or do without it totally as hardly people eat them after the dinner. Or get a friend.home baker to have it done for cheap. I felt the $355 I paid was abit steep and given a chance would have probably chose a cheaper option.

For my gown

I had it customized because I wanted a piece I could keep and I had gone with a Seamstress who operated from home, It was a rather hands on process where I had to selec my own lace, buy lace appliques, as well as other fabric etc to have it all put together, it also required about 5-6 sessions of me dropping by her place which I think wouldn’t be possible if I wasn’t self employed. On hindsight, honestly I wouldn’t have mind just renting. Actually my pre-wed shoot included gowns but I decided not to take those as I already had mine MTM. For those who are curious, the gown cost me about $2000, whereas rental gowns probably cost about $600-$800 or less.

Oh and I had my gown designed in such as way there there was a convertible skirt which I wore during the solemnization which I could remove during dinner for easy maneuver – also because my gown reveals quite abit of legs. CHR_2439

For dinner I just wore a gold gatsby inspired gown which I bought on the internet for cheap. The great thing was that it had a lace up back so it made it easy to cater to your size, the bad thing for me was that I think I lost some weigh due to stress and the dress was a tad loose.

By the way the lady in green here is our Justice of Peace: She was really professional, sweet and succinct. I personally think a solemnization is a serious affair and do not like JPs cracking inappropriate jokes hence i went with Ms Rosemary Lim who also was my good friends’ JP :) .

The Hubby’s dark blue suit was tailored at far east plaza  – Picadilly custom tailors , 14,Scotts Road #02-86 Far East Plaza, 228213 which great service and again allowed for customization of your lining etc. They even bother to have your name emboidered inside of it. It cost about $450 If i recalled correctly for a coat, pants, shirt and vest.

This can be done just about 2 months ahead of your wedding to avoid weight fluctuations.

Our entourage gowns and get-up.

Buy these well before hand – and head to the tailor if need be.

For the guys we got them white shirts and kaki pants from uniqlo as the husband wanted to tho I felt it wasn’t necessary but the funny thing was his friends didnt have white shirts. Ok then *chuckle*.

For my ladies, I bought them dresses off taobao and again I chose gowns with lace up backs to allow more room for the difference in sizes between everyone.

That side one way to save money really was to be more flexible on the bridal entourage get up :) You can simply get your bridesmaids to wear a certain color dress which all of them already have. Similarly with the groomsmen.

I also handmade each of them a babys breath floral crown.

Things I’ve DIY-ed

I had handmade all the lapel pins and corsages with the same lace appliques used on my gown. CHR_1069 CHR_1241 CHR_14302016-10-06 22.59.28

And these’ baby breathe floral crowns for each of my bridesmaids 2016-10-07 14.34.29

Wouldn’t want to have it any other way hence I splurged a little on the decorations since I loved fresh flowers so much and my theme was enchanted forest. Of which Ive to thank my friend and trusted florist Regina Mae of https://www.facebook.com/Regina-Mae-Fleurs-Atelier-169963573192086/

She made my bridal bouquet, bridesmaids posies, wedding arch, table centerpieces and main wedding decor + car deco.

The photoframes that you see were bought online at taobao by me and then framed with my photos – afterwhich I left Regina to work her magic with it.CHR_2116 CHR_1617

CHR_1098CHR_2217 CHR_2215 CHR_2464 CHR_2467 CHR_2785

Florals however easily cost some $5000 and up, the skies’ the limit really. There are however some ways to have it cheaper – ie: Going for cheaper types of flowers, and believe it or not, the month is really important too, expect your florals to cost easily twice as much in December all the way up till Chinese New Year hence not a good idea to hold your banquet in those months. If you think foilage and greens are super cheap – they aren’t either. You could however save money by ordering say a hand bouquet from a neighbourhood florist or have a talented bridesmaid DIY for you. I had a friend who did up all her table centerpieces herself with babies breath – so nothing is impossible when you have a will.

Alternatively go to Far East Floral wholesale to buy flowers and make your own hand-tied bouquets for you and your entourage. It really isnt’ that hard! better yet, be open to non floral bouquets, it could be a paper flower bouquet, a crystal bouquet, a seashell/lollipop bouquet, – you name it.

Bridal Car

Our bridal car was our friends’ car. I came this close to renting on from Carousell and then our good pal offered his super comfy ride . Thanks for waking so early D and going to my florist the day before to deck your car <3 Here’s the amazing flowers done by Regina once again. Check out the giant Protea – this saves me at least $388- $500 but of course we gave a big angpow to our friend lol. I rather benefit a friend lol.

Back when my brother got married, he chose to drive the family car – aint no need for a fancy car that doesn’t even belong to you right?

Guestbook – consider forgoing it as I’ve been to many weddings where just the first 2-4pages are filled up. My other girl pal personally regret splurging $35 or so on a little box only to have it go to waste.

I instead brought along a scroll for signatures, as pictured here. Which seemed more well received and appealing. Consider even a canvas which you can hang up for memories after too. Or skipping it because you won’t be looking at it that much frankly. Our scroll was included in our prewedding package so we put it to use for the wedding.DSC_0429

On Hair & Makeup and my nails

I chose the lovely Bejeweled nail salon at BreadTalk IHQ close to where I lived to have my amazing Bambi themed nails done . Thank you Eileen for the constant support. The details in the nails were a dream come true for me. Bejeweled was also the nail salon behind my many manicures: From my prewed photos manicure to my japan trip and even my hens party for me and my bridesmaids.

2016-10-06 20.53.26

This was my prewed photoshoot manicure

bejeweled nails taiseng breadtalk ihq

My makeup was done by Sally & Malena  from https://www.malenabridal.com who were the ladies who did my Hens Party make up as well!

I went along with 3 hair changes and 2 makeup changes – I reckon I should have just done with 2 so that I would have made more time with my guests. Ahhhhh see what happens when you’re vain.

I had an up-do for the morning to keep cool, and and braided look for my solemnization ceremony and lastly big vintage curls for dinner.

p.s my teardrop earrings here were bought on the internet – real cheap actually. I think it was less than $15. Did 2016-10-08 17.48.01CHR_2828CHR_2810

Did I mention I also had a super capable MUA to doll up my Mother, MIL and bridesmaids? CHR_1838

To sum it up:

  • Go for only what you are comfortable with spending, please do not get into debt it aint worth it.
  • Work out your guestlist before looking for your venue. Be prepared for a few drop outs on that day so always invite more people than you require.  Out of my 150 guest, about 5 dropped out. Tip, Expect a 4-5% drop out rate so invite just a couple more than you are expecting.
  • Work out the tiny details with your venue coordinator before signing and placing a deposit.
  • DIY whatever you can and are comfortable doing, rope in your entourage if you need to.
  • Look at the big picture and don’t sweat the small stuff [A number of things went wrong on my wedding day but that’s common, so just be happy and mentally prepared that somethings will not go to plan.
  • Don’t be afraid to explore Taobao lol it’s a wedding treasure trove.
  • Oh get your prewed photos taken in places like Korea/New Zealand where they return you all the photos [instead of upselling you each and every shot..]

For me my wedding banquet cost about $18000 + [for just the food alone] and it cost about $42500 if I added everything from tailoring, to the cake, photography on actual day, prewedding photography, angpows for the entourage and helpers, makeup, decor, wedding gifts and more.

I think I could have had a wedding below $25000, should I have wanted something much simplier, but I think we quite happily spent what we felt was necessary and we were ready for. We thankfully broke even on the dinner which was not something I was expecting – I personally think you shouldn’t expect your guests to cover your cost. ie someone who chooses say a really grand wedding at the St Regis should be able to afford it themselves and not expect their guest to pay the $300 and up to cover each seat because franktly not everyone is as wealthy and even so, they presence is a gift and their angpow a token of blessing – so it shouldn’t be expected.   I had a friend or two who asked how much dinner was and I declined to reveal and just told them to give whatever they felt like. hehe

I’m also thankfully for my childhood friends who took the time to come over from bangkok and china to attend my wedding.

Special thanks for Creativekad, Stanstills, Bejeweled Nail Salon, Dr Vanessa Phua, Dr Chiam and MaryChia’s Huang Ah Ma Spa for the kind sponsorships. Regina for trying to keep to my tough budget.
The team from High notes for all the assistance with the sound system and the musicians
And my family and friends of course of which all these wouldn’t have been possible.
We took our prewed video at Mitzo and Halias so thanks to both management teams of these places for allowing us the use of venue.

Shou Slimming centre

CIMG0542I know some people will exclaim that I’m so skinny – and question what I am doing at a slimmer center : but I recently went to Shou Slimming Centre at Novena Square for their wellness program to try out their herbal compress massage and it was really calming and relaxing. At the same time I had a toning LPG massage done – which required me to be almost naked lol hence the lack of photos hehe.

At Shou, customers do not have to take any pills, meal supplements or undergo injections, crash diets or sweaty workouts. Shou’s programmes help to shape overall body contours – customers can achieve the body they have always wanted! And from my mouth: They offer great massages hence even skinny girls can go to – to get toned or just to have a relaxing time as they have a huge variety of tcm treatments.

For first time customers, you’ve to fill up a form that evaluates your lifestyle, afterwhich you get changed into a robe and step onto a machine that measures your BMI and fat percentage etc, my results were normal, then the consultant evaluates you physique which I felt a little shy since I was in just my underwear but of cause she’s a lady so that’s fine.

There’s really a huge variety of quality treatments offered at Shou!
Take for example their V pain relief treatment

Using the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method of managing pressure points along the nervous system (Meridians), the V-Pain Relief Treatment is centred on relieving the pressure along these Meridians. With 12 principal Meridians covering the body’s nervous system from head to toe – such as the intestine, bladder, spleen, the kidneys and liver, Shou Slimming’s V-Pain Relief Treatment focuses on reducing the pain on these key points to improve overall well-being.

Each 90-minute session, starts off with an assessment of your condition – upper or lower back, tummy, arms and legs to ensure the treatment is targeted. A series of therapy using machines will be recommended, in addition to a TCM Massage. Central to Shou Slimming’s philosophy with this treatment is the belief that pain can be caused by the body’s lack in ability to detox and also when the body is in need of cellular healing – especially after a bout of illness or a chronic condition, it slows down its metabolic rate, resulting in swelling and inflammation. The V-Pain Relief Treatment is designed to restore that and provide relief for an overall renewal.

There are two forms of the V-Pain Relief Treatment targeted at different needs of the body. Two key technologies being used are Far Infrared Rays (FIR) and the Venus Multi-Polar Radio Frequency energy with magnetic pulse (MP2). Both work in tandem to target pain and assist with cell recovery – aiding in quick pain relief and over the course of time, recovery against chronic exhaustion, aches and pains.

Far Infrared Rays (FIR) is an invisible ray of light from electromagnetic radiation. Scientifically, it is radiation with a wavelength of 15micrometres to 1milimetre. This transfers energy in the form of heat and is one of the body’s naturally emitted radiation that is also easily absorbed. Because of the body’s positive response to FIR at the cellular level, this technology has been used widely for therapeutic purposes in healing and aiding cell recovery.

Venus MP2 is the combination of Multi-Polar Radio Frequency energy with Pulsed Electro Magnetic Fields (PEMF) – used in conventional medicine and together they create MP2. Combining the homogeneous thermal heat delivered deep into tissues, as well as the non-thermal technology through the PEMP, it triggers a regenerative process within the skin and at the cellular level – boosting cell repair and the increase of collagen production.

The V-Pain Relief Treatment is part of Shou Slimming’s Wellness Programme and packages start at $1,888 (incl GST) for a series of 16.

Experience the Shou Slimming V-Pain Relief Treatment (Recovery or Regenerate) at a trial price of $99 (incl GST).

I think the presentation is great, and the salmon pretty fresh in the Dons. It tasted good as they torched it lightly. If the Dons look tiny to you that is because the bowls are hugeee lol.yubahut

here’s a preview of the menu and prices. I also tried the cream cheese mentaiko salmon which was not too bad, and the taiyou century maki. As i’m not a century egg lover, the taste was not to my liking lol but at least i tried it. More often than not I would pass on something I know I wouldn’t like. Prices are on the mid range side but that’s probably because salmon and seafood is expensive yea? 2017-08-04 19.37.58 2017-08-04 19.37.50

Kooza – @ The Big Top

Cirque Du Soleil has always captured my breath, since I was a kid. I mean if you’ve ever watched one – we can agree that it leaves you spellbound , often making you wonder what amazing feats the human body can endure, it also takes entertainment to a new level. Storytelling and acrobatics never looked these good.

The cast is often made out of acrobats, musicians, magicians, singers and actors, amazing make up artist! Really it is a feast for the senses with very strong story telling to take the audience on a journey – I guarantee you won’t fall asleep because your fellow audience will be shrieking, laughing, squealing and more.

2017-07-13 00.30.13 2017-07-12 19.22.40

Cirque Du Soleil started in 1984 with a group of 20 street performers , look how far they have come! Today they employ over 4000 people including 1300 artist in 50 countries.

Now back to Kooza, Kooza is inspired by the Sanskrit word Koza which means box ie: Circus in a box. I think the highlights of the show if I really had to choose would be the 725kg wheel of death where 2 artist walk on a rotating wheel reminises of a giant fidget spinner only that it has 2 sides and not 3. And they do all sorts of things on it, they , run, jump , at times they fly lol. And the Teeterboard where a acrobats on stilts execute quintuple twists and somersaults? *Gasp* – seriously they talented or what?

The fun technical things are that their costumes are all hand made and dye in house, Hats are custom to each artist ‘s head which I heard is then built with the help of 3D printers. Bravo. The costumes I can tell were inspired by Steam Punk elements, as well as Alice in wonderland in mind.

82 containers are needed to transport the big top, as well as equipment and costumes  – isn’t it amazing. The Big Top is climate controlled and seats up to 2,600 guests. I don’t know if these bores you but its totally questions I would ask – being an events planner lolol perhaps this is occupational hazard.

I was really won over by the Unicycle Duo as well , I’ve tried and failed riding one yet these people are doing once again all sort of things on it, dancing on it, carrying each other on it?

The crooner/Skeleton dance segment had amazing amazing costumes! I got to meet the lead character Cedric Belisle [pictured about in the backdrop] who plays the innocent and such a sweet guy he is,  definitely one of the youngest, We joked about how he prevents his clown nose from falling off in singapore’s humidity. I also got to meet Baisa, one of the surprisingly many Mongolians on the set! Baiza has a cousin who’s an acrobat as well and was inspired from childhood to join the circus, he has performed in the Saltimbanco too , and then i met Talita who is brazilian and appears in the Teeterboard act and she spoke about the challenges of her job – how they have to look happy no matter what on set. She is a trained gymnast since age 5 and was from a humble background with litle but had the opportunity to chase her dream with much perseverance.

Here’s a photo of BAISA :)

My personal thoughts are that there is something from everyone at the Cirque Du Soleil, be it oggling at the sets , the visual displays, the costumes, the AMAZING makeup, the strength and diversity of the cast and musicians, the raw talent of each of these humans and their crew, and the plot and engagement there is in it <3 I would love to watch more Cirque Du Soleil, and honestly can’t wait for the next!

Supergoop! sunscreen is now available at Sephora [Singapore + Malaysia!]

2017-06-21 16.44.54   Did you know Maria Sharapova is co-owner and ambassador of Supergoop!. Well no wonder she’s probably the most beautiful tennis player around #supermodel material don’t you agree?

Launched in 2007 by a school teacher, Holly Thaggard, Supergoop! is the only prestige skincare brand completely dedicated to UV protection 365 days a year. It’s been awhile since I met an entrepreneur who’s this focused on living and breathing their mission. Holly and her team of some 20/30 people strive to create products famlies and kids can use safely –one that is easy to apply and backed by high quality ingredients and not to mention lots of clinical research. It wasn’t until today that I realize how skin cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers globally and how easily preventable it actually is.

Here’s Holly and me :)

Supergoop holly

She looks wonderful doesn’t she? we heard that she touched down in Singapore on a 5am flight this morning – and yet still looked fab (she credits this to her eyecream) and I must say that I reached for that tube of eyecream today and i can see how that helps! it was an instant eye brightener wow!? [now i can’t wait to go buy more Supergoop!]

supergoop everyday sunscreen

Ever wonder where the name Supergoop! came from? Not being from the beauty industry Holly referred to her earliest lab samples as “goop”. When Supergoop! Everyday SPF 50 was presented, she had exclaimed “this goop is super!” and that’s how Supergoop! was born. It was a very exciting time for her which is why it’s always written with an exclamation point!! She says you can’t say it without a smile on your face lol.

It’s also really surprising to learn that sunscreen is deem as a ‘drug’ in many states in the US and kids are not allowed to thank these to school – and how Holly is campaigning state by state to raise awareness on the importance of sunscreen and trying to breakthrough to government to allow it for use on kids. Talk about Laser focus and determination! I do love how Supergoop! is free from parabens, oxybenzones and synthetic fragrance and controversial ingredients. Did you know Supergoop! will send at least in the US – free sunscreens to schools! That’s putting money where her month is – I really admire Holly’s pluckiness and get go attitude! It must have been quite a tough journey over the past decade.

In Holly’s words “I’m here to change the way you think about sunscreen. No longer is it a sticky, tacky, smelly mess that you put up with at the beach. It’s a feel good lotion, a refreshing makeup setting spray, your got-to-have-it mousse, that you’ll want to wear. Every. Single. Day”

Take heed as majority of the damage that leads to skin cancer later in life is actually done during childhood as kids are exposed to 3 times more sun than adults.

Did you know while the lips and the eyes are the first areas dermatologists check for skin cancer, it’s often the hands that are the first place to show signs of damage. Apparently because people tend to wash their hands after applying sunscreen.

Also being in the shade or even on a rainy day you’re still being exposed to damaging sun rays. Skin, without sunscreen, is always at risk for sun damage. UVB rays can easily reach the skin indirectly–particularly by bouncing back from surfaces like concrete, sand, snow and water.

The date your sunscreen was manufactured is really important!

The shelf life begins at the date of manufacturing rather than the date you opened the product. If your newly-purchased sunscreen was recently manufactured, it is likely effective for two years (three years, max) so using it from one season to the next could be okay. Keep in mind, however, that if you apply generously and frequently 365 days a year, a bottle of sunscreen should not normally last from one summer to the next. And, it’s not so much about the sunscreen becoming ineffective as it is the risk of bacteria and fungal growth, which can happen well within the expiration date, and quickly lead to serious skin irritation and allergic reactions.

Supergoop eyecream oat peptides

Note to self: Steer clear of parabens, synthetic fragrances and oxybenzone. Oxybenzone, was declared Allergen of the Year by the American Academy of Dermatology, has also been connected to hormone disruption and cell damage that can cause skin cancer. Another ingredient to avoid is Retinyl Palmitate (vitamin A) as studies suggest that while this is an antioxidant, it can actually accelerate growth of skin cancers. SPFs over SPF 50 can also be irritating and the SPF benefits reach their maximum at 50. I guess – no need to go above 50 then.

The brand story made my heart drop a little – Holly created Supergoop!

While there’s so many products Supergoop! has in their brand – I would probably say the Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF50 is the bomb!

The Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF50, which was sold out at Sephora in the US is your answer to reapplying sunscreen over makeup. I bet none of us did that previously, I have tried and failed as it gave me a terrible stinky grease over my makeup and skin – but with a mist im surprised just how no one had thought of it earlier? I can’t wait to get my hands on some of their lip protection products such as the Lipscreen! Our poor lips – have been neglected for a long time.

The brand also has fun products such as a sunscreen mousse https://www.sephora.sg/products/supergoop-super-power-sunscreen-mousse-spf-50/v/100m

l and things like a make up setting powder, or body butters and sunscreen oils. #wow

Pico + fractional laser

While Dr Elias Tam of EHA is no stranger when it comes to aesthetics, and I was and still am quite the fan of their 24hr sunscreen.[Please check this out if you’re a sunscreen fanatic like me lol.]

DMPixels - EHA SkinCare

 – EHA SkinCare

I must mention that he gives great care and service to his patients, I’m very blessed to know him and have him to help me solve my skin troubles! Esp when my adult acne can be rather hard to combat -_-.. more on that soon.

Here’s CIMG0460Dr Tam’s clinic with its clean white interiors are welcoming, not clinically white but rather, clean bright and inviting, with aromatherapy to boot and even some freshly brewed teas for patients. Here, his numerous accreditation and certificates line the walls :) Tea EHADr Tam certificates

And a little peek into what a consultation with Dr Tam is like – he is a very affable doctor who gives alot of face time to his patients, I mean I have gone to clinics where the doctors only see you for some 5-10mins during treatment, so much so you don’t get to talk much or even get to know them. I see now why Shirley of Luxury Haven is a fan too hehe.

Dr Tam unlike other practitioners I noticed takes the time to ask about your lifestyle and history of your skin and your routines to then give you a rather comprehensive recommendation/treatment plan. He doesn’t rush thru things for sure :)

Not that I ever blamed any doctor ever for giving me less time with them but everyone appreciates it when their doctor isn’t rushing thru the works!Dr Tam EHA

As with many clinics and sometimes facial salons, a VISIA imaging system with a very high definition camera is used to map out your skin condition, from pigmentation to pores etc.

This was just a snippet of my skin analysis, before more photos were taken of my face in various angles for documentation and followups I believe – then my face was cleansed by the lovely assistant and prepped for the laser session. EHA clinic singapore

Here’s me – post laser.

This visit to Dr Tam – I was daring or perhaps vain enough to get a fractional laser done. It’s meant to improve my skin tone as I do have visible pores and even some scars (even on my nose tho I’ve yet to treat that). I went to work right after wearing just a face mask lol.
The pain was very bearable, and in fact I have some trouble recalling the scale / pain factor now that i’m a few weeks post laser.
I had the picosure laser done first, followed by fractional laser which I think was by the picosure machine as well.

Afterwhich a blue light treatment was applied too – to kill acne bacteria I think!

EHA clinic bluelight EHA clinic fractional

My face was pretty red after the fractional laser but this didn’t deter me from going back to work lol, and my work mates didn’t think or notice too much either lol. Thanks guys hahaha.

In fact this was done on 30th May and by 3rd June my skin was totally recovered and I could attend a wedding happily with good skin! something I didn’t think was possible when it came to fractional lasers. What sorcery is that lol. Oh the advancement in technology these days :) dreams can now come true !

For my home care I’ve decided its time to be diligent and use my differin cream to combat the darn breakouts I still get, along with the amazing Hydra Hyaluronic serum and Moisturing gel both of which are fragrance free!

The hydra serum has a strong viscosity which I showed some of you on my instastories, Tip: stretch the serum between your fingers, and the viscosity demonstrates the high quality of the Hyaluronic Acid used.

This uniquely lightweight serum does not clog pores and is suitable even for those with sensitive skin and post ablative or non-ablative lasers/procedures – when skin is most desperate for hydration. <3
The high viscosity enables this serum to form a thin yet highly protective layer over your skin, to maintain hydration. Just one pump does it for my entire face :) I kinda regret not using this earlier when I was introduced to the product somewhere last year!

Dr Tam also recommended me the Moisturizng Gel which is free of artificial activators and dehydrating alcohol. This non greasy gel-based-lotion forms a protective barrier that locks in moisture and nutrients so your skin stays hydrated for longer. Non greasy and suitable even for those with oily skin, it can be used in place of a primer, so foundation applies smoother and lasts longer. Perfect for daily use.

With Evening Primrose extract known for its anti oxidant and whitening properties, seaweed extract for its moisturizing and whitening properties, plant collagen and protein for its deep hydrating and anti-ageing properties, silicon for its ability to form a barrier and keep skin hydrated and protected from oxidation and Titanium Dioxide for its sun protection properties this water-based gel type moisturizer hydrates without leaving a greasy or shiny residue. Mad love for all of these and can’t wait for my June appointment.

Wondering whos’ the cheapest 1Gbps broadband at CEE 2017

WhizComms CEE 2017

This is the cheapest 1Gbps home fibre broadband plan we have ever seen in Singapore. Effectively, you’re only going to pay $18 per month for a 1Gbps home fibre broadband plan, and you only have to commit 12 months instead of the industry standard of 24 months. The super deal is for real, at the Consumer Electronics Exhibition (CEE 2017), at Suntec Convention Centre. Only from 1 to 4 June, this deal is available for the first 50 customers per day who register at WhizComms booth (Booth 8501).

A few of the telcos are also introducing Mesh Network at the show, to enhance your home WiFi. Many people may not know how to use such equipment, and many do not know which ones to get to suit their home environment and usage. WhizComms Broadband is the only telco so far we’ve found, to be offering WiFi Clinic service to their customers, which is an essential onsite home WiFi Audit Service and installation service of the most suitable equipment for their homes, and how to place the equipment to maximise WiFi coverage at their homes.

Now back to the prices. With 2 big shows – the PC Show 2017 and the CEE 2017 happening over the same weekend at 2 different locations, you will want to plan your travel wisely to avoid disappointment. We’ve summarized the prices of all the telcos at the show and their locations in the table below. We believe this will greatly ease your job in making comparisons for the best WiFi deal in town.

Our conclusion?

  • If you want the cheapest 1Gbps home broadband, go for WhizComms. They give the lowest priced home broadband deals, short contract period at 12 months, and also a WiFi Clinic service, which no other telco provides. You’ll definitely want to check their booth out if you’re at CEE 2017 this weekend!
  • If you want any commitment shorter than 12 months, go for MyRepublic with no contracts. Be prepared to pay $59.99/month, no free months available.
  • Singtel has the cheapest WiFi mesh service at an additional $10/month for AirTies WiFi Mesh. Do remember to take the monthly subscription fees into consideration, with AirTies WiFi Mesh, the monthly subscription fees will be $69.90/month before the free subscription promotion.
