Skinbiotics – Glutathione Skin Supplement

Recently, at at Watson’s Beauty Day out event for the media, i was introduced to Skinbiotics’ brand of skin lightening + anti blemish oral supplement. Called Even+ Whiter. So in the press pack came a pack of Skinbiotics whitening formula containing 21 pills.

Now what’s a blogger to do? Scrutinize the ingredients of course, especially if it is something you’re gonna ingest.

Glutathione pills help to whiten the skin in a couple of different ways. Melanin is the pigment that gives our skin its color, produced by the activation of the enzyme Tyrosinase. GSH binds to Tyrosinase and helps prevent the enzymatic pathways from producing melanin. The second is a much more important role. GSH helps to prevent the activation of Tyrosinase by reducing free radicals in the body that can activate it and cause an increase in melanin production.

Supplement Facts

GSH tripeptide complex 600mg, Asorbic Acid aka Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps your body absorb GSH.

What is Glutathione?

Glutathione (GSH) is often referred to as the body’s master antioxidant. Composted of three amino acids – cysteine, glycine, and glutamate – glutathione can be found in virtually every cell of the human body. The highest concentration of glutathione is in the liver, making it critical in the body’s detoxification process.

Rice,Fish, bananas, potatoes, Carrot, tomatoes – can replenish the levels of GSH but your liver expends it so fast and that’s when supplements help.

Mechanism of Action:

Glutathione is an extremely important cell protectant. It directly quenches reactive hydroxyl free radicals, other oxygen-centered free radicals, and radical centers on DNA and other biomolecules. Glutathione is a primary protectant of skin, lens, cornea, and retina against radiation damage and other biochemical foundations of P450 detoxification in the liver, kidneys, lungs, intestinal, epithelia and other organs.

Do healthy people need to take GSH?
Optimal Glutathione levels are important for everyone. Although you are hopefully in good health right now, Glutathione levels fall as we age, and are lowered by a great number of very common illnesses. There is a constant demand for Glutathione in our daily life; stress, pollution and infectious disease are all causes of Glutathione depletion. To those that exercise regularly, Glutathione is especially important to replenish to avoid injury, improve recovery time and keep your immune system strong.

Which illnesses may be affected by raising GSH?
Glutathione deficiency states include, but are not limited to: AIDS, cancer, muscle wasting, chemical & infectious hepatitis, radiation poisoning, malnutrition, strong physical stress, and acetaminophen toxicity. including cardiovascular, lung, digestive and kidney disorders are associated with Glutathione deficiency and are cited in numerous medical references.

What studies prove GSH works or are there any studies that prove it works?
The landmark study was done by the Department of Neurology, University of Sassari, Italy in 1996. In this study all patients improved significantly after Glutathione therapy with a 42% decline in disability.

Why is there a need to take Vitamin C while taking GSH?

This is to keep L-Glutathione in its absorbable or reduced form. This will release the potential of vitamin C’s derivatives’ whitening properties. That is why a person taking L-Glutathione should take 2-3 times more than the dose of L-Glutathione.

What is the duration of intake for skin whitening?

  • Medium Brown Skin 1-3 months
  • Dark Brown Skin 3-6 months
  • Very Dark Skin 6-12 months
  • Black Skin 2 years or more
  • Once a person has acquired her desired skin color, the maintenance dose will just be 500 mg once a day.

Note: Vitamin C should be taken 2-3 times more than the dose of Glutathione to keep Glutathione in its absorbable (reduced form) and at the same time release the power of Vitamin C derivatives whitening properties
